If you are going watch this new video by acclaimed photographer and our November 2014 cover artist, Roger Ballen, we highly suggest you refrain from going to sleep for at least a few hours after viewing it to prevent any possible terrorizing nightmares. Seriously, this fantastic video entitled Outland is dark, creepy and enigmatic. Released in conjunction with Phaidon Press releasing a revised version of Outland, filmmaker Ben Jay Crossman gives us an insightful perspective showing the viewer “the mind inside the mind.”

Few photographers reach a point in their creative journey where the visual dialect is unmistakably and inimitably their own. In our current image-flooded culture, those who are able to patent their own aesthetic should be commended and valued. I am, and have been, on image overload for some time, constantly confusing one photographer with another. Exceptional talent is in short supply

With Roger Ballen on the cover of the magazine this month, we thought we would take a look back at one our favorite collaborations: Asger Carlsen and Roger Ballen. We are big fans of Asger Carlsen who we interviewed in the January 2013 issue of the magazine. The idea of the two working together seemed like such a natural fit that we were not even surprised to see it. But that doesn't mean we were any less excited to see it!

Christophe Guye Galerie is pleased to present Roger Ballen's upcoming solo exhibition "Asylum of the Birds," which will be the first gallery exhibition of his most recent series of work. We reviewed his newest book in the mag recently, and were lucky enough to have Mr Ballen on the cover of our photography zine in early 2014. Not only will the show feature over a dozen black and white photographs, the film ‘Asylum of the Birds’ as well as a site-specific installation and original drawings will be on view.
