With this new body of work I am continuing to focus on my fascination with animal/machinery hybrids. There are so many unanswered questions I have about them. Is this a not so distant future reality? A terrible road we should never go down? How do I make the Killer Whale a more efficient killer? Can the marlin and shark be even faster hunters, more dangerous...

In keeping with our recent interest in artist's studios, we've taken a trip into the three workspaces belonging to the artists of "Dark Matters," an exhibition fraught with night-things and gnarled creatures which debuted this month at Bash Contemporary in San Francisco. The artists are Robert Bowen, Caitlin Hackett and Dave Correia, and together they populate a nightmarish world with cold colors, distorted anatomy, expressive brush strokes and grotesquely accurate details. Take a look into the studios where these otherworldly realms were created, and make sure to catch this show before it comes down!

Bash Contemporary presents "DARK MATTERS," a three-person show featuring new works from Dave Correia, Caitlin Hackett and Robert Bowen. The show is a collection of new paintings and drawings chronicling 3 different nightmarish worlds seamlessly interacting with one another amongst their cold colors, distorted anatomy, expressive brush strokes and grotesquely accurate details.

This December, Loakal presents the three-person group show “Authoring Evolution,” featuring recent work by Xiau-Fong Wee, Lauren YS and Robert Bowen. The oeuvres of these Bay Area-based painters are steeped in science fiction. The three artists create a tension between the futuristic and the mythological with their otherworldly, figurative work. The human, animal and machine are combined to create hybridized forms that speak of the human condition in today’s increasingly digitized society.

From our good friend Alex Pardee and the Zerofriends crew: Time Flys. While it's hard to believe that it's already time to announce a new show at our Oakland Gallery, it's one we're certainly excited about. This Saturday, December 8, longtime friend and painter Robert Bowen will be featuring a series of new paintings that differ slightly from his past work.

I interviewed surrealist painter Robert Bowen for Juxtapoz Issue #139. Since that was only a couple of months ago, I was going to ask him the same exact questions that I did before just because it would be silly, but instead, I'm going to let his incredible paintings speak for themselves, because they speak pretty loudly and each one has its own beautiful voice.
