We kick off the summer months with some bright lights and bold nights with June 2015 cover artist, Ryan McGinness. The NYC-based artist has his hands in a little bit of everything these days; installation, painting, Instagram-projects, murals, parties, museum shows... he is all over the place with imaginative and conceptual fine art. Carlo McCormick writes our cover story this month and finds meaning in McGinness's world of symbols

We have been excited to see the opening of REVOK's newest solo show, "Los Angeles," opened with Detroit's Library Street Collective in downtown Los Angeles. We attended a special event opening last night, and caught the great new direction in the longtime Los Angeles-based REVOK's new work.

Detroit-based contemporary art gallery, LIBRARY STREET COLLECTIVE, is pleased to announce the much-anticipated Los Angeles exhibition by REVOK. This will be the artist’s first solo exhibition in Los Angeles, unveiling an entirely new body of work featuring over a dozen hand-painted wood assemblages of enthralling geometric forms in vibrant oil enamel and synthetic polymer. The work is a culmination of REVOK’S new ideas that spawned since moving back to Los Angeles in 2013 after a two-year creative hiatus in Detroit.

For the last 20 years, Juxtapoz Art and Culture Magazine has stood for the outsiders, to create a place and dialogue for artists who stood outside of the museum programming of the time but were creating substantial and amazing work that needed its own historical context. We have been lucky in our 20th year to celebrate special events in NYC and San Francisco, but we are even luckier to get a chance to celebrate with our July 2014 cover artist, Shepard Fairey, as he curates a major public art and exhibition, "Art Alliance: The Provocateurs" in Chicago during Lollapolooza, July 31—August 4, 2014.

In the past few years, with the influence of people like Revok exposing the possibilities the city offers, Detroit has become a spray-painting destination for domestic and international writers. The city is everything you would expect (rundown, dilapidated, dangerous, etc), but also has amazing resources available and is having a rebirth of creativity in many ways. In this new video produced by MOCA, Revok and Pose share their thoughts and enthusiasm on Detroit, all while painting two massive Nekst tribute pieces on the exterior of the MOCAD with the help of others.
