One of the world’s most forward-thinking graffiti artists, RETNA (Juxtapoz #78) gets personal in a 9-part interview (that’s right he really gets deep) on Walrus TV. The man behind those now-iconic calligraphic letters and stunning depictions of women has quite a story behind all that success.

Ji’s visual elixir of life and death attracted a plethora of fans to the opening night festivities, which included a video presentation by filmmaker Phill Schwartz (shown above next to the artist). The effect was a stunning sensory exploration of Ji’s work. Continue that exploration with us in gorgeous event photos here…

"Memento Mori" by Mac x Retna

Juxtapoz // Monday, April 13, 2009
Mac just sent us some flicks of his brand new collaboration with Retna (Juxtapoz #78). The artist tells us, “This is a mural Retna and I just painted in Los Angeles called Memento Mori. This is a Latin phrase meaning ‘be mindful of death’ and can be translated as ‘remember that you are mortal’ or ‘remember that you must die. That could seem a little grim, but the point is really to encourage us to properly value and make the most of our time here.” Word.
