"EPIPHYSM" refers to the third eye, aka the pineal gland, and is the title to Remed’s first solo exhibition in Africa at David Bloch Gallery in Casablanca. The Spanish artist filled the gallery with a diverse amount of work; most notable are the intricate metal sculptures and brithly colored vases, accompanied with a number of small and large paintings. The show runs through this weekend, January 12, 2013.

The show entitled “EPYPHISM” will showcase a number of new paintings from the artist. One thing you notice walking the streets of Johannesburg is everything is hand painted, with vinyl signs having little presence. Espo started another mural that is twice as big as the previous “Stay Up” mural and while they worked away, we walked around. Local artist Faith 47 happened to be putting up work around the corner from where were staying, so we briefly chatted with her.

After a sleepless 15 hour flight, we anxiously arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa for the I ART JOBURG project presented by adidas Originals and curated by /ANDPEOPLE. This month long project has brought five international and local artists to create large-scale public murals in the bustling streets surrounding the Maboneng Precinct in Johannesburg’s central art district.

Remed Painting in the Azores Islands

Located 900 miles west of Portugal is a series of islands called the Azores. One of the bigger cities on the island of San Miguel is Ponta Delgada and this is where Spain- based muralist, Remed is currently creating a vibrant new mural. With two faces facing opposite directions and a beautiful color palette, we look forward to seeing the final product.

Featured in our August 2012 issue is French-born, Spain based fine artist and muralist REMED. What first attracted us to REMED? Simple; his use of color to create simple, flowing characters reminded us of the great abstract artist that came before him. But this application to the street works have brought international attention to REMED, and we think this is as good as time as any to showcase a range of the artist's work.
