We end the year on a high, high note, with a great December 2013 cover story on artist Todd "REAS" James. We have been scheduling a story with Todd for a bit now, and after the VMAs with the Miley bears, and another year where his exhibitions seems to get more and more stunning, we thought it was time to send contributing editor Joey Garfield out to NYC to catch up with REAS about pirates, girls, Mileys, vandals, and the evolution of his craft.

Black and white, low light, super 8, grainy and a good way to start your Sunday. This classic super 8 footage of AOK members Reas, Ven and Mesh, painting the New York subway in the late ‘80s is a rare find.

Lots of Todd James news on the site and in the Juxtapoz channels this week, more on that in a minute, but James will be part of a five person show, curated by Jessica Hodin, going up tonight, October 10 at the Bleecker Street Arts Club in NYC. Meet Your Maker will showcase new works by James, Joyce Pensato, Sue Williams, Devin Troy Strother, and Sylvia Jeffriess.

A few weeks back, we mentioned that NYC's Todd "REAS" James was going to open a new exhibition, Business As Usual, at Galeria Javier Lopez in Madrid, Spain. Well, that show opened. And then we didn't show you the art. And then we saw the art. And then we saw the art in context of the space. And then we thought, wow, that is beautiful. And now we share with you...

The Galería Javier López begins the exhibition season with the specific project ‘Business as Usual’ - the second solo show in our country by American artist Todd James (New York, 1969). The opening will take place in the context of APERTURA 2013, an event organized by the Contemporary Art galleries association ArteMadrid.

Well, obviously KAWS has big things in store this weekend at the MTV Video Music Awards, airing this Sunday, August 25 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. We knew he had redesigned the iconic Moonman statue for the award show, and because we like to scour Instagram, we have seen a 60' foot KAWS designed Moonman that will be right in the heart of the Barclays Center during the show. But now we see some updates regarding the great Todd "REAS" James, some bears, and Miley Cyrus. We may actually watch this one.

The European season has been kicking off over the past few weeks, and we just got a look at what V1 Gallery of Copenhagen has going on at the Art Basel week festivities, with a booth of Geoff McFetridge, Todd James, and HuskMItNavn works at the Volta9 fair. If you are in Europe and have a plan to be in Basel, Switzerland for the weekend, we definitely think you should check out this booth featuring some of Juxtapoz' current favorites.

Our Beastie Boys issue is now out in the world, and today we look at the contributions of Todd James, known sometimes as REAS, to the BBoys canon. James created a few animations and graphic works for the Beasties, including the Dusted Elephant. He also created the animated sequence for the 1992 B-side, "The Skills to Pay the Bills."

Former Juxtapoz Magazine cover artist Todd James (aka Reas) will be exhibiting a new collection of acrylic paintings at Lazarides Galleries in London. Part of his iconic Somali Pirates series, the New York-based artist's paintings depict pirates, often in headgear and masks, brandishing AK-47s and performing a range of quotidian activities.

In conjunction with V1 Gallery's 10 year anniversary show, Tonight We Won't Be Bored, the Copenhagen-based gallery just released a series of editions that include Todd James, Richard Colman, Anika Lori, Andrè Saraiva (Mr A), Geoff McFetridge, and HuskMItNavn (Remember My Name). To us, V1 has one of the best programs of any of the galleries we cover, and we want to say congrats on 10 years of showing great artists, and here's to 10 more!
