Ray Caesar's Erotica

Erotica // Wednesday, July 11, 2012
Eccentric British artist Ray Caesar is a shy and reclusive artist whose imagination seeps through every piece he creates. Doll-like creatures with haunting personalities populate much of his digital artwork. Caesar draws inspiration from the things that are often overlooked in the world, such as abandoned stores or old carpeting, as well as his own life.

Ray Caesar: Blessed

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, July 11, 2012
'I don’t really approach my work with a preconceived message but I do find a continuation of a process that unfolds that surprises even me after I finish the work. It does seem that my work contains aspects of a story that unfolds and has a great deal to do with a process of intense psychotherapy and the years of dealing with dissociative identity disorder (a form of multiple personalities) and trauma I went through in childhood...' Ray Caesar and his Ghosts

Erotica // Tuesday, March 06, 2012
"People think I paint pictures of children," says Ray Caesar, emphatically adding, "I don't!" As the Toronto-based artist explains, "I paint pictures of the human soul... that alluring image of the hidden part of ourselves. Some call them ghosts or spirits, but I see them as the image of who we truly are, made manifest with all the objects nad bruises that filled the story of each life."

Ray Caesar

Erotica // Tuesday, October 25, 2011
Ray Caesar has always been different, as he implies in his biography, but his artwork has always remained a passion in his life. Growing up in the 60s, his artwork was shunned by his family and peers for being too unconventional. He started showing true passion one night: "My change occurred one night when my Mother visited me, which was slightly unusual because she had passed away some months before, a victim to the cigarette habit she could never quite lick..."

[This exhibition] communicates what I am finding."
