Ralph Steadman, the British illustrator famous for bringing Hunter S. Thompson’s madness to life and cover artist of our April 2013 issue, recently worked with Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan on illustrating limited-edition Blu-Ray covers for a special box-set of the popular series.

We've previously posted Ralph Steadman's illustrations for Alice in Wonderland, today check out his 1995 illustrations for the 50th anniversary of George Orwell's Animal Farm. The edition included Orwell's unpublished preface to the original edition, titled "The Freedom of the Press." "The chief danger to freedom of thought and speech at this moment is not the direct interference of … any official body. If publishers and editors exert themselves to keep certain topics out of print, it is not because they are frightened of prosecution but because they are frightened of public opinion. In this country intellectual cowardice is the worst enemy a writer or journalist has to face."

Our April 2013 cover artist has signed and numbered a limited-edition print that goes along with the cloth, hardcover, 448-page monograph. The book is printed in a limited quantity of 1,000. Opening this past weekend in Baltimore was a group show that celebrates the Gonzo reality, an influential style that developed through the collaboration of April cover story Ralph Steadman and Hunter S. Thompson (best known for "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.")In honor of the duo’s groundbreaking relationship, Flying Dog Brewery, in association with Woods Contemporary, presents The Gonzo Collection – reinterpretations and responses to Steadman’s work by some of today’s most notable contemporary artists.
