Over the past year, Juxtapoz and Converse have teamed on a unique project, Wall to Wall, where we invite an artist in a city in North America to create a semi-permanent mural based around the artist's interpretation of the iconic Converse star. Today, we look back on the mural created in NYC, Manhattan specifically, by former Juxtapoz cover artist and Barnstormer, David Ellis.

Traveling through the small fishing village of Tonsupa located on the North Pacific Coast of Ecuador, Spanish illustrator and muralist, Liqen, painted an impressive black and white mural. This time around, a portrait of a woman with heads for a necklace can be seen half immersed in moving water. A whale, octopus arms, dolphins, sailboat, and more travel in various directions creating a beautiful composition.

In 2009 Brazilian artist Nele Azevedo carved 1,000 Melting Men out of ice and placed them in Berlin's Gendarmenmarkt Square to bring awareness to Global Warming. As part of the Festival of Queens in northern Ireland, she created a similar installation to visually remind people of the melting ice caps in Greenland and Antartica.

In part of an ongoing video series, Italian painter, Zed1, has released his newest segment entitled “Born Slaves.” The artist created an interesting time lapse of an egg deteriorating away to reveal one of his signature characters chained up.

Juxtapoz headed down to the high school to watch the process of the stenciled cover, and today we have a behind the scenes video showing the making of the cover. Italian muralist, Mark Burresi aka Zed1, painted these strange creatures with the words “Nothing is Free” on a freeway pillar in Certaldo, Italy. The semi-clothed, monkey resembling characters are seen perched on a branch eating bananas.

Every year, hoards of tourists descend on the town of Anna Paulowna in North Holland to see the millions of brightly colored rows of tulip fields. French photographer, Normann Szkop, seized the opportunity to get an aerial view by catching a ride in a small plane and shot some photos that show a completely different perspective.

Today, we look back on the mural created in Huntington Beach, California by artist PUSH. As you may have seen in Los Angeles recently, PUSH has had standout works at Known Gallery, and we featured the artist in our Seventh Letter issue in July 2007.
