In L.A.: Jim Drain @ Prism Gallery

Last week, we attended the opening of Jim Drain's Drain Expressions exhibition at Prism Gallery in Los Angeles. The show "proposes a level of visual fecundity that has long been present in the artist's work - elaborate woven compositions, deconstructed paintings, immersive wall patterns, wall-mounted sculptures and gently satirical promotional posters are drawn together in the artist's first major exhibition in Los Angeles in 8 years."

  This past weekend Clare Rojas’ latest exhibition opened up at Prism gallery in Los Angeles. Entitled Pith, this body of paintings signals a further exploration for Rojas, in respect to both subject and materiality. Tonight, Ocotber 19 at PRISM Gallery in Los Angeles, San Francisco-based Clare Rojas will be opening her second solo presentation at the gallery. Barry McGee will make a return visit to show at Prism Gallery in Los Angeles tonight, May 11, 2012, with a large portion of work created at the gallery itself. In 2009, McGee held an exhibition for the gallery's inaugural exhibition, titled MindTheGap. Since then, the gallery has gone on to show many renowned international artists including David LaChapelle, Os Gemeos, Ryan McGinness, Andy Warhol, Araki, and a bunch more. This one should garner a ton of attention.

We stopped by the opening of Miss You, an exhibition of new works by the Brazilian twins Os Gemeos at Prism Gallery this past weekend. This stunning exhibition engulfs the entire gallery top to bottom, painting the whole gallery even the floors and ceiling. There are several installations, including a few interactive ones and a quite a few larger scale paintings. This is definitely an exhibition not to miss.

We are at the time of the year where we begin to look ahead to 2012, and Brazilian twins Os Gemeos are opening a new exhibition at Prism in Los Angeles this February 25, 2012. That's right, two months from now. No information has been leaked as of now, but knowing the twins great work as installation artists, and Prism's space, this one will be a must-see.

Return of the Repressed: Destroy All Monsters 1973-1977, a stunning retrospective of works created by the 1970s artist collective Destroy All Monsters opened this past weekend at Prism Gallery in Los Angeles. Curated by Dan Nadel and Destroy All Monsters member Mike Kelley, this exhibit consists of a plethora of works from Niagara, Kelley, Jim Shaw, and Cary Loren--some of which have never been exhibited before.

We just featured Australian fine artist, Jonathan Zawada in our August 2011 issue, and he is currently exhibiting in Sunset Etc at Prism Gallery in Los Angeles. The group exhibition features Leroy Grannis, Roy Lichtenstein, Matthew Porter, Ed Ruscha, Andy Warhol, Tom Wesselmann, and Zawada.
