This weekend, on June 22, Deedee Cheriel will be opening new works alongside Mel Kadel and Femke Hiemstra at Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles. We were lucky this morning to get a preview and collection of new works from Cheriel, who in her artist statement notes, "With nuances of East Indian art, Cheriel's use of bold elements – both urban and natural, as well as pop culture – are indications of how we try to connect ourselves to others and how these heroic efforts are episodes of compassion and discomfort."

Narwhal Projects is pleased to present Brooklyn-based, American artist Paul Wackers's first solo exhibition with the gallery. Almost Somewhere features a new series of paintings by Wackers, furthering his representations of domestic accumulations and quiet collections: now with soft intercessions on the part of abstraction, there are moments that sigh across his new works with gentle energetic movement.

Spoke Art is proud to present "The Black Robe" a three person exhibition featuring Barron Storey, M Ian Dringenberg and Keita Morimoto, curated by Eidolon Fine Arts. "The Black Robe" brings together three generations of notable artists and their interpretations of legendary Japanese Tanka poet Ono No Komachi.

The Shooting Gallery is pleased to present, Madness, by Seattle-based Japanese artist, Yumiko Kayukawa. This new collection of works will be her eighth solo show at the Shooting Gallery and will feature her acrylic and ink paintings on canvas. The opening reception of Madness will be held at the Shooting Gallery on June 8, 2013 from 7-11pm. The exhibition will be on view through June 29, 2013 and is free and open to the public.

Joshua Liner Gallery is pleased to present Renegade Trajectories, an exhibition of new paintings and works on paper by Oliver Vernon. This is Vernon’s third solo show with the gallery, and the artist will be present at the opening reception on May 30. Combining elements of landscape painting, figuration, and abstraction, Vernon’s practice pushes all of these categories beyond easy distinction, creating a hybrid visual language all his own. “The picture plane is a continuum of give and take,” says Vernon, “where positive and negative space give way to each other in rhythmic intervals. Energy oscillates and migrates, initiating changes along the way. And color is a navigational tool to guide the eye through the chaotic scape.”

On Saturday, May 18th, CHG Circa presents "Recent Projects" by artist Michael Mararian. Michael Mararian returns to Corey Helford's second space, CHG Circa, with more of his delightfully absurd and humorous works. Rendering traditionally cheerful images and concepts into frightening, yet humorous tableaus, Michael Mararian often focuses on children as the last bastion of innocence to explore the dark humor behind social and psychological issues.

Friend of the family and Amsterdam-based Parra will be opening a new solo show, Il Senso di Colpa (The Guilt), at Galleria Patricia Armocida in Milan, Italy on May 27, 2013. The exhibit consists in seven medium-sized canvases, ten watercolors, four black and white drawings as well as two sculptures.

Los Angeles based gallery Thinkspace has teamed up with Gallery 309 in Philadelphia, PA to present ‘LAX / PHL’. This special group exhibition has been curated by Thinkspace to further introduce our roster to the City of Brotherly Love. Featuring new works from over 40 artists from around the world and an installation from Philly’s very own NoseGo, the exhibition will run from May 11th through June 21st.

Today we are very pleased to show an inside look at our very special June 2013 issue, Beastie Boys: A Visual History + Tribute to MCA. For the special issue, we have interviewed every album cover artist, from Polly Wog Stewto Hot Sauce Committee Part Two, inner-sleeve artists, photographers, and even feature some of the outtakes that went into every album cover. We find the inside stories of how each album came to fruition through the experiences and artwork of each artist that is now part of the Beastie Boys canon. The issue was curated and compiled by our contributing editor-at-large, Joey Garfield.

The Walt Disney Family Museum is pleased to present the exhibition Camille Rose Garcia: Down the Rabbit Hole. On view from May 9 to November 3, 2013, the exhibition features some 40 works by Garcia alongside ten Alice in Wonderland concept paintings by Disney artist Mary Blair from the Museum’s collection. Organized by guest curator Tere Romo, the exhibition celebrates not only Garcia and Blair’s artistry across decades and artistic styles, but also the power of art to draw us into magical worlds that spark engagement and inspiration.
