HIdeaki Kawashima is one of our favorite contemporary Japanese artists, and the fact that Kawashima studied under the great Yoshitomo Nara just makes us like the artist even more. He is set to open a new body of work at his US gallery, Richard Heller Gallery in Santa Monica, with "Back and Forth" opening on October 18th, 2014.

Good friend Beau Stanton is in Bristol, England right now, teaming up with another Jux friend Andy Phipps and his gallery space in the South for a new grouping of Stanton's work, "Tenebras Lux." We have some progress shots at the moment, and here's the lowdown on the body of work: Tenebras Lux is a new body of work inspired by the imagery and techniques found in sacred spaces. Stained glass windows, elaborate oil paintings, and ornamented sacred objects create an immersive experience that references medieval art forms, ancient and modern religious iconography, and fetishized holy relics.

This should be one of LA's standout shows in the latter part of the year, as the Clayton Brothers set up shop at Mark Moore Gallery this August 16 with Open To the Public. We were lucky enough to have a few great pieces by the Brothers at our 20th Anniversary show at Jonathan LeVine Gallery this past May, and we love the direction that the 2x cover artists have gone with their new work.

We are huge fans of Parra, and his March 2008 cover ranks as one of our favorites of all time. And, we quite the 3 artworks that the Amsterdam-based artist sent for our 20th Anniversary show, "Art Truancy," at Jonathan LeVine Gallery in NYC this past May/June. The artist is back at HVW8 Gallery in Los Angeles with a new series of works, "Same Old Song," all visual treats that not only reflect the artist's sense of humor, but this roots in poster art where communication is a practice in simplyfying complex ideas.

It was very sad for us to see our 20th Anniversary show, "Art Truancy," come down from Jonathan LeVine Gallery a few weeks back. We had a blast! But good things come to an end, and in this case, another good thing is on the horizon at JLG. Famed and influential Bronx-graffiti staple CRASH is set to open "Broken English" at the gallery on June 26, 2014. In conjunction with the exhibition, CRASH has painted a mural with The L.I.S.A. Project NYC, located on Suffolk between Rivington and Stanton Streets, and will release a new screen print editio.

Well, its been awhile, and after some delays and about 3.5 years of waiting, Mark Ryden is set to open a new exhibition, "The Gay 90's: West" at Michael Kohn Gallery in Los Angeles on May 3, 2014. Mostly we want you to schedule a visit to see the show because a) we have seen some behind the scenes looks at the show and can say its worth your damn time, and 2) Michael Kohn is opening a brand spanking new space that is glorious and spacious and worthy of a visit. And yes we just went a)-2) on you.

Inspired heavily by horror films, cartoons, nature, candy, and video games, January 2014 cover artist (cover of the Alex Pardee curated "Imagination Issue" no doubt) Charlie Immer‘s striking, surreal work is both humorous and unsettling. “Loose Juice” is Immer’s first solo show at La Luz de Jesus Gallery and features paintings focused on Endurance. The show opens this Friday, April 4, 2014.

Mel Kadel's beautiful artwork graced the cover of our February 2014 issue, a great way to kick off the year for us. Travis Millard took the helm of the interview and had friends, family, and colleagues interview Mel about her art, process, and career. Now we have a chance to see the new body of work at Merry Karnowsky Gallery this month.
