Artist Chris Johanson is pleased to present the third annual Quiet Music Festival of Portland celebrating soothecore, a new dimension of emotional, vibrant, and low volume music honoring of the quiet act of listening. The two-day event opens on Friday, May 31 through Saturday, June 1, 2013 at local arts and cultural organization Disjecta and is made possible with support from Generic Surplus.

We are enjoying these double exposure portraits by Portland-based photographer Sarah K. Byrne. Sarah recently filmed and wrote a tutorial for how to make multiple exposure photographs like hers using a 5D mark III.   

In Portland-based artist Adam Friedman's work, rules of perspective, distance, and light are bent. Space can become a solid object and places are folded on top of one another. Millions of years are compacted into a single instant and rocks become fluid.

Brad Simon is an artist, designer & illustrator in Portland, OR who created a humorous series of cartoon portraits of personalities and characters that are 'Most Likely to Fail'. With interests, specialties and goals in an array of abstract topics like 'Roast Beef Dreams', 'Rug Burns' or 'President of the Pillow Riders', Simon's illustrations have their hearts in line with their passions.

We just ran into the works of Samantha Wall this morning, a Korean born, Portland-based fine artist who creates portraits of distress. One of her more recent series, Partially Severed, "uses the female body as a site of struggle between subjective narrative and representations of women in Asian horror cinema." Like we said, distress. That work was on display at Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland earlier this year.

Portland illustrators Timothy Karpinski and Brooke Weeber just opened their newest show "The Day We Saw the Sun Come Up" at Compound Gallery. Their brightly colored, graphic illustrations (and installations) feel both nostalgic and immersive, and we wish we were in Portland to see the show in person! But for now, we have a few pictures to whet your palette.

As we noted on the site the other day, tonight, Friday, November 9, Portland-based fine artist, Josh Keyes, opens a new solo show, The Circus and The Sea, at Roq La Rue Gallery in Seattle. Today we have a nice preview, as well as noting that Mr Keyes will release a new print, Exodus I, available only to walk in's to the gallery starting at 5pm on November 9th.

Tattoo artists from all over the country, if not the world, will be making their way to Portland this upcoming weekend from October 12-14th for the 4th annual tattoo expo. Custom cars, tattoo contests, inked babes and beauties and array of your favorite artists will be at the Portland Expo Center for this yearly event.

Antler Gallery is proud to present 'Magic of the Woods' by Hannah Stouffer. The San Francisco-based artist is set to open her latest series, a collection of fantastical landscape paintings, on August 30th as part of the Last Thursday event in the Alberta Arts District. Stouffer has worked with a wide array of high profile commercial clients while simultaneously advancing her fine-art career with gallery shows and installations at many prestigious galleries throughout the US.
