As part of his all around the world in Gagosian Gallery's near you exhibition, The Complete Spot Paintings 1986-2011, we stopped by Damien Hirst's opening at Gagosian in Paris last week to see what pieces showed up in France. The worldwide exhibition features paintings are being lent by private individuals and public institutions, more than 150 different lenders from twenty countries.

French artist and social activist JR opened a new exhibition, Encrages, at Galerie Perrotin in Paris this past November, and the gallery just released a video featuring British mainstays Massive Attack playing surrounded my massive (hey-o) projections of JR's work. A well done video by Guillaume Cagniard. The show officially ends on January 7, 2012.

There is a strong chance that if you have ever been wholeheartedly involved in graffiti that you once dreamt of a place like this. Then again, this is what a graffiti Disneyland would like, but in actuality it’s just some buildings in Paris that have been assaulted to the fullest. I spy Sonic x 3.

Running through April 2nd, 2012 is Danser Sa Vie: Art and Dance in the 20th and 21st Centuries at the Centre Pompidou, Paris. The show examines the relationship between dance and visual art since Eadweard Muybridge captured motion on film.

The French artist who began in 2004 wheatpasting his photos in the streets of Paris, to being awarded the prestigious TED award in 2010, has opened his first major solo exhibition titled “Encrages” at Galerie Perrotin in Paris. Considering himself nether a street artist or a photographer, JR simply describes himself as an "urban artivist.”

All with a knife. Scotland-born, Paris-based Georgia Russell creates these incredible manipulations with a scalpel, transforming photographs and newspapers into completely unique pieces of art. The movement pieces are impressive, but what Russell does with newspapers is a whole other beast. More after the jump . . .

JR, who has an incredibly busy year with his Inside Out Project from winning the TED Award, will be opening a new solo show, Encrages, at Perrotin Gallery in Paris this Saturday, November 19. The exhibition is a pre-cursor to the work that JR will be doing with Perrotin at Art Basel, Miami.
