Today, Friday, June 6th, 2014, Needles and Pens is presenting "Clutter," a solo exhibition by Troy Lovegates (aka Other). "Clutter" will feature a collection of paintings, drawings, prints, books, wood block carvings, and wall scribbles from a cruddy northern city up in the Canadian tundra known for it’s fat red faced mayor.

Amidst the abundance of murals being created during Art Basel in Wynwood, Miami (many being embarrassingly bad), Canadian muralist, Troy Lovegates aka Other, painted one worthy of consideration and attention. Other’s newest mural in Verdun, Quebec, shows a man with his shoes kicked off, enjoying one of those Bomb pop popcicles and in the company of some local friendly wildlife. A small mushroom sits at the base of the bench and the overall vibe is pretty peaceful.

Other has been trekking his way across Canada leaving his mark in various cities. The first one is with Saddo in Hailfax, another in Montreal for their Mural Festival, and a choice black and white portrait on a train.

Troy Lovegates aka Other, recently completed this vibrant mural on what looks to be a construction site wall in Copenhagen. The artist is having an exhibition while in town at the MOHS Exhibit on May 24, 2013 entitled “Shallow Lake.”

When we think of Other’s work we associate it with trains because it’s where we first saw his monikers and they have always stood out amongst the hoards of other doodles. This new piece by him in Chicago is not on a train, but is of a train. The Canadian artist beautifully painted an old steam engine towing a small log cabin and a multi-colored head in an undisclosed location.
