This Friday, November 2, Revok will be exhibiting Ordinary Things at Library Street Collective in Detroit. Revok has become somewhat of an ambassador to the arts revival in Detroit, spending time in the city and helping unite both local and national artists who have descended upon the city. And because of this, Each work consists of material cultivated and cultured in the city of Detroit.

Read More Books, The Reader, Booker, Bones, and more, recently opened a new exhibition entitled Read Up In a Down Economy at Ditch Projects in Springfield, Oregon. The elusive artist filled the space with a number of installations that included work on found objects such as news stands, wood palettes, corrugated metal, and even a trailer, most being shot up by a shotgun, accompanied with paintings and mixed media pieces.

For the third straight year, Spoke Art Gallery has turned their space into an homage to the fantastic filmmaker Wes Anderson. The show, which ran for two days this past weekend as a Halloween costume party, featured seventy-five painting, prints, and sculptures by an amazing group of talented artists who have come to admire the wacky and wonderful world that Anderson has created over the years.

Last Thursday in the San Francisco Bay Area town of Los Altos Hills, Juxtapoz and actress Marisa Tomei helped co-host a one-night exhibition to help benefit the Palo Alto International Film Festival. Featuring the works of Sage Vaughn, Deedee Cheriel, and Curtis Kulig, the migrating pop-up Gallery for the People organized the event to bring together both cultures of film and art.

We had the pleasure of attending the opening reception of Jeremy Geddes, at the Jonathan Levine Gallery. Exhale is the name of a series of 17 hyperreal paintings that capture surreal instants, created with incredibly accurate detail and laborious work. His characters seem to appear in the precise juncture of a fragmented moment and space “...generating a tension between man-made environments in flux and the fragility of living bodies.”

Tonight, Ocotber 19 at PRISM Gallery in Los Angeles, San Francisco-based Clare Rojas will be opening her second solo presentation at the gallery. Entitled Pith, this body of paintings signals a further exploration for Rojas, in respect to both subject and materiality. In this exhibition, we observe the artist’s concentration on abstract space and the blurring between architectural dimensionality and geometric flatness.
