Last year we had the fortunate opportunity to attend the ONO'U Graffiti Festival on the stunningly beautiful island of Tahiti and it was by far one of the most memorable graffiti related trips we have ever attended. We encouraged people last year to apply to enter the competition and we are doing it again right now! You have less than a week, until January 31 to apply and we can't emphasize enough how much you will be thanking us if you end up going.

With the competition over and all large murals completed, a group of artists headed on a day field trip to Moorea Island to eat, swim with sharks and stingrays, and soak in the tropical luxuries. As most worked on their murals for just about a week, the rest and relaxation was essential. Reflecting on our week spent in Tahiti we can genuinely say that the group of artists chosen to participate were some of the most humble, egoless and talented individuals we've had the pleasure to watch work.

On the second day of the competition for the Ono’u Tahiti Graffiti Festival, the ten final round competitors were each given a word in the Tahitian language to paint and interpret. For five hours the varied styled artists painted it out, each bringing exceptionally strong work to the table. After a lengthy and trying deliberation between the judges the winners were announced.

Continuing with our exclusive coverage from the Ono’u Tahiti Graffiti Festival, we bring you another round of photos from the spray madness happening all around the small city of Papeete. While many of the artists creating large-scale-murals wrapped up their walls, the two-day competition and events began. On the first day, 23 competitors from around the world were each given a selection of colors and a designated section to paint.

Another day baking in the hot Tahiti sun and our pale winter skin is beginning to turn into a summer bronze. We once again made our rounds around town to find many of the artists closer to completing their large murals, while many of the competitors found more new walls to paint. The two-day competition for the hefty $10,000 prize starts today and we look forward to seeing what some of the artists have up their sleeve.

Arriving just as the sun was rising, we were greeted at the airport with live Tahitian music, fresh flowered leis and warm smiles. Despite the long overnight flight, everyone appeared enthusiastic about being on an island in the middle of the South Pacific Ocean and to be painting graffiti on it as well! After the standard meet and greet, summary of the week activities and paint distribution, everyone was able to soak in the island’s amenities (snorkeling, kayaking, sun bathing, you know, tropical island stuff!)
