Being released today, September 6, Shepard Fairey and Obey are releasing the Americana Box Set, featuring the album of the same name by Neil Young & Crazy Horse. The work in the box set initially made its debut at Perry Rubenstein Gallery. The Box Set includes 12 signed & numbered screen prints of the Americana Paintings (Edition of 450), 1 signed & numbered Americana song lyric screen print (Edition of 200), a certificate of authenticity, and a CD of the Americana album by Neil Young and Crazy Horse.

We will be getting a ton of The Rolling Stones turning 50 news in the coming months (including an exhibition at Somerset House in London), but let's officially kick things off with the news that Shepard Fairey has taken the iconic Stones logo (created by John Pasche in 1971) and gave it a face lift. A few weeks ago, we were contacted by filmmaker Julian Marshall and his project, OBEY THE GIANT, what is being called the "first narrative film" about Shepard Fairey and his Obey Giant street art campaign. Yesterday, Marshall launched a Kickstarer to finish the project, to gain funds to pay for editing, sound design and mix, vfx and wire removal, score, and color correction.

Shepard Fairey, who recently wrote the introduction to our Barbara Kruger cover story, teamed with Poster Child Prints for the Obey Peace Series holiday print release. The PCP exclusive edition is sold as a set and consists of 3 prints: Vivi La Revolucion, Peace Elephant & Peace Fingers. More information after the jump . . .

Patrick Martinez just sent us opening photos, shot by Brandon Shigeta, of the important "Dreams Deferred" show at the Chinese American Museum in Los Angeles. We wrote about the show earlier this month, mentioning it showcased, "artists exploring the tensions, repercussions, hopes, and dreams of immigrant communities in the face of new immigration legislation, through a broad spectrum of art including street art, graffiti art, sculptures, painting and multimedia installations." Anyone who made it to Shepard Fairey's May Day show, the final at Deitch Projects, remembers how striking the work looked against the gigantic white walls. Shepard's reinterpretation of the American flag were our favorite pieces from the show, one of them a cover of Gingko Press' new book, MAYDAY: The Art of Shepard Fairey, chronicling that very last show in May of 2010 at Deitch Projects. Today and tomorrow (December 9th & 10th) is the last stop for Sanrio’s Small Gift Mobile Pop-Up Tour, with the stop being in the worlds' headquarters of New York City. The mobile pop-up shop is filled with limited-edition 50th Anniversary Merchandise, and if we remember from when we were young lads and ladesses, anything Sanrio was Holiday heaven. The Chinese American Museum and El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument have teamed together to present Dreams Deferred : Artists Respond to Immigration Reform opening this Thursday night, December 9th, in Los Angeles with a special opening reception.
