Oakland-based sculptor and illustrator Jeremy Mayer collects old typewriter parts and consctructs anatomically correct humans and animals. The pieces aren't welded or glued but intriciately put together only using the original metal components. "The first few pieces I created were very crude, but I loved the idea of making something from an archaic relic and from only one other object."

Norton Factory Open Studios Party, Oakland

This weekend, Norton Factory Studios in Oakland is having an Open Studios Even in conjunction with the opening for the Historical restoration of their space. The once empty warehouse is now home to 18 studios! The new artists will be opening their studios on June 1st for the big party. The artists include: Tom Cooke, Eric Einwiller, Rachel Garber, Mary Going, Janet Bartlett Goodman, Lara Hoke, Howie Katz, Jennifer Linderman, Joe MacCarthy, Anthony May, Lisa Pfeiffer, Frank R. Ramsay, Eric Rewitzer, Sonia Sinton, Philip Tice, Jennifer Wolpert, Linda Yao, and Dana Zed.

Oakland has notably been a strong magnet of sorts for graffiti writers around the country to come claim residency and attempt to make a name for themselves. Writers have recently been dedicating pieces to the city, even if it is not their native turf. Jeans and Kure certainly have done one of the better homage’s to the city of Oakland with this new mural.
