Earlier this year, we published a new book in our ongoing series, New Contemporary, that focuses on painters that both define and help evolve our coverage of painting through our 20 years of publishing. One of the artists that we were most proud to showcase was Scott Greenwalt, an Oakland, California based artist that combines both the natural and the metaphysical, creating a new brand of psychedelic arts with originality and amazing painting chops. We stopped by his studio to get a better glimpse at his work ethic, his plants, and his neighbors.

Oakland has notably been a strong magnet of sorts for graffiti writers around the country to come claim residency and attempt to make a name for themselves. Writers have recently been dedicating pieces to the city, even if it is not their native turf. Jeans and Kure certainly have done one of the better homage’s to the city of Oakland with this new mural.

We have shown you the work of Scott Greenwalt on the site before, but seeing that he is in our new book title, Juxtapoz New Contemporary, we wanted to reshine a light on the Oakland, Ca-based artist. "My paintings are really about capturing a moment," he says, "or a composite of several moments, wherein the subject undergoes a massive physical change."

At our good friend Alex Pardee and the Zerofriends space in Oakland, California, Ricky Watts just opened a new solo show, Destination Unknown. You might remember Mr Watts' work, as it was presented prominently on the stages of the Outside Lands Music and Art Festival in the summer of 2012 in San Francisco.
