Tellas for Nuart 2011 Video

Juxtapoz // Friday, January 27, 2012
One of our favorite newcomers we met at Nuart this past Fall was Italian artist Tellas, who put together a beautiful multi-storied mural and intricate installation piece in Stavanger. All we can say about Tellas is watch out for him, because there is already a clear vision and style coming from this young artist.

Escif and Hyuro for Nuart Video

Juxtapoz // Friday, January 13, 2012
We always we knew we loved the work of Escif (the cover of the February 2011 issue) and Hyuro, but when they went with a Guy Debord quote to be the centerpiece of their installation at Nuart in Norway this past Fall, we knew we had kindered souls. Watch the video of the Spanish artists after the jump . . .

Vhils for Nuart 2011 Video

Juxtapoz // Tuesday, January 03, 2012
When we were in Stavanger, Norway for Nuart 2011, one of the most impressive artists that we met was Vhils, the Portuguese fine artist who created this incredible indoor installation of duel skulls. In a decaying, beautilful old brewery, Vhils and crew carved out this piece right out of the wall. And, there were some great street pieces as well...

Juxtapoz // Monday, December 19, 2011
When we were at Nuart this past Fall, Herbert Baglione's installation room was one of the highlights, as the Sao Paulo-based artist had paid tribute to the 69 victims of the Norway UTØYA ) massacre that occured in the country earlier in 2011. The work, when completed, was a moving tribute and stunning piece.

Juxtapoz // Thursday, December 15, 2011
Just when we were really beginning to miss Stavanger, Norway, the good people of Nuart just sent us this timelapse of David Choe and DVS-1 painting their black light installation room. Lucky you, you get to read about DVS-1 in an upcoming issue of Juxtapoz.

Dan Witz @ Nuart

Juxtapoz // Saturday, October 08, 2011
We got to spend a lot of time getting to know more about Brooklyn-based Dan Witz last week in Stavanger, Norway for Nuart. And one thing we learned is he works methodically and quickly, and by the time we got settled in the hotel, Dan had taken over the city with his floating eyeballs and king baby pieces.

Juxtapoz @ Nuart: Visiting the Norwegian Petroleum Museum

Juxtapoz // Monday, October 03, 2011
If you didn't know, Norway is extremely rich, expensive to visit, has lots of petroleum, charges a lot for beer and food, and is very upfront that the reason this is the case is because they have oil. And they celebrate this very nonchalant fact by having a Norwegian Petroleum Museum in the town center of Stavanger.

Juxtapoz @ Nuart: Lucy McLauchlan's Lighthouse for Nuart

Juxtapoz // Saturday, October 01, 2011
Late in the afternoon, Herbert Baglione, Juxtapoz and the McLauchlan crew headed out to the Obrestad Lighthouse, west of Stavanger, for the opening celebration of Lucy McLauchlan's mural on the heritage-site. In short, the experience was out of a Viking movie, with an amazing fog bank and rural environment.

Juxtapoz @ Nuart: David Choe and DVS-1 in Stavanger

Juxtapoz // Saturday, October 01, 2011
Juxtapoz followed David Choe and DVS-1 into the streets of Stavanger, Norway for the public art portion of Nuart. Something sort of amazing happened. In the middle of the day, police driving by, neighbors coming out to say hi... everyone was just plain happy to see art being done in the street.

Juxtapoz @ Nuart: Day 3

Juxtapoz // Thursday, September 29, 2011
As we learn to love Stavanger, Norway and Nuart more and more, Day 3 saw many of the artists move from indoors to outdoors. Herbert Baglione, David Choe, DVS-1, and Herakut were finishing indoor walls, and Escif, Hyuro, Lucy McLauchlan, Phlegm, and Tellas were all working on city walls. And, Juxtapoz went on a fjord cruise....
