Real Surreal Photography by Andi Galdi Vinko

Erotica // Tuesday, January 13, 2015
There are both surreal and subtly odd things going on in this photo series bt Andi Galdi Vinko for Dazed. The Hungarian artist says of the series, “I usually only work with hairstylists and makeup artists when it comes to commissioned projects and usually our hands are tied and we can't go crazy. Here, we had no rules to follow, no client and no demands”. Well, she and her friends basically have made us all wonder if you are supposed to have glue that close to your belly button.

Marilyn Minter: PLUSH

Erotica // Tuesday, January 06, 2015
Marilyn Minter has long been one of the most talented and alluring of hyperreal painters, and her depictions of the female form are almost surreal in their finished state. Now, well, she has focused her attention on pubic hair, both in painting and photography, and we mean lots of pubic hair, in a new book called "Plush," for which there were only a limited edition of 500 printed with 10 deluxe copies, published by Richard Prince's Fulton Ryder book shop.

Best of 2014: Pink, A series by Prue Stent

Erotica // Tuesday, December 30, 2014
Let's take a moment to celebrate the color pink, in all its glory, in all its rare use in the natural world or art in general. For some reason, seeing this great series of Pink by Melbourne's Prue Stent made us realize just how rare pjnk is used, or better yet, how rare it is that pink is used well. From Staged Photography, "The themes of her photography center around femininity and the struggle of identity in women. The color pink is used to represent femininity either physically or emotionally throughout her work."

Rosie O'Laskey by Todd Pendu

Erotica // Wednesday, December 24, 2014
The shoot with LA-based model Rosie O'Laskey and I went quite well as we walked through the backstreets among the warehouses and industrial garages of Bushwick in Brooklyn, NY. Rosie was wearing only heels and a long black coat over underwear and stockings. At times we were shooting her half-naked with workers just around the corner having no idea we were there.

Best of 2014: Lucy Hilmer's 40 Years of Birthday Suits

Photography // Wednesday, December 24, 2014
Every year on her birthday photographer Lucy Hilmer takes a self-portrait defiantly wearing only socks, boots, and a pair of white underpants. She documented forty years of her life in this way, starting in 1974 as a twenty-nine year old photography student...

Embroidery Butts, Breasts, and Maybe Some Junk by Sally Hewett

Erotica // Tuesday, December 23, 2014
Tis the season. Think about it. Grandpa opens his package, and instead of a coxy blanket, he gets a pair of embroidered breasts. We think this is safer than a nudie mag subscription. UK-based Sally Hewett creates embroidered art of our privates, from breasts to butts to junk and more. She even leaves a little hair in there for authenticity.

Maggie West Explores the Sensuality of Plant Life

Erotica // Friday, December 19, 2014
"Anthophilia" is a photographic series by Maggie West that explores the sensuality of plants in conjunction with human sexuality. The curves and lines of the individual flora are echoed in the shape of the body. The deep blues and jewel tones throughout the work enhance the surreal tone of the series. In each photo, the model's mood is directly affected by the structure of the plant. With the Heliconia (big red plant) she stands strong and rigid whereas with the Calla Lily she is more soft and delicate.

Furniture Bondage by Melanie Bonajo

Erotica // Thursday, December 18, 2014
This work is so awesomely bizarre, we thought it would make for some great holiday dinner discussions, or at least some fun family charade time. As we have mentioned on the site in the past, "Melanie Bonajo's works are collages in real time, performative works that combine multiple eclectic elements in real space instead of the flattened world of two-dimensional images ..."

purienne.

Erotica // Wednesday, December 17, 2014
We know, it seems a little pretentioius to throw around Henrik Purienne's name around like a Brazilian soccer star, but the book "purienne." is just sitting on our desk so we feel comfortable throwing that around. And the South African photographer uses a nice font for his name. Anyway, Purienne also seems to have created a fantasy world for himself, where he has transformed fashion photography into a behind-the-scenes endless summer of beautiful women, fantastic composition, in naturally appealing settings. As both a filmmaker and publisher of Mirage Magazine, he has his stamp on the fashion world.
