Embroidery Butts, Breasts, and Maybe Some Junk by Sally Hewett

Erotica // Tuesday, December 23, 2014
Tis the season. Think about it. Grandpa opens his package, and instead of a coxy blanket, he gets a pair of embroidered breasts. We think this is safer than a nudie mag subscription. UK-based Sally Hewett creates embroidered art of our privates, from breasts to butts to junk and more. She even leaves a little hair in there for authenticity.

Maggie West Explores the Sensuality of Plant Life

Erotica // Friday, December 19, 2014
"Anthophilia" is a photographic series by Maggie West that explores the sensuality of plants in conjunction with human sexuality. The curves and lines of the individual flora are echoed in the shape of the body. The deep blues and jewel tones throughout the work enhance the surreal tone of the series. In each photo, the model's mood is directly affected by the structure of the plant. With the Heliconia (big red plant) she stands strong and rigid whereas with the Calla Lily she is more soft and delicate.

Furniture Bondage by Melanie Bonajo

Erotica // Thursday, December 18, 2014
This work is so awesomely bizarre, we thought it would make for some great holiday dinner discussions, or at least some fun family charade time. As we have mentioned on the site in the past, "Melanie Bonajo's works are collages in real time, performative works that combine multiple eclectic elements in real space instead of the flattened world of two-dimensional images ..."

purienne.

Erotica // Wednesday, December 17, 2014
We know, it seems a little pretentioius to throw around Henrik Purienne's name around like a Brazilian soccer star, but the book "purienne." is just sitting on our desk so we feel comfortable throwing that around. And the South African photographer uses a nice font for his name. Anyway, Purienne also seems to have created a fantasy world for himself, where he has transformed fashion photography into a behind-the-scenes endless summer of beautiful women, fantastic composition, in naturally appealing settings. As both a filmmaker and publisher of Mirage Magazine, he has his stamp on the fashion world.

Alexis Hunter: The Model's Revenge and More

Photography // Wednesday, December 17, 2014
We lost an important conceptual artist and feminist theorist this year in New Zealand born photographer Alexis Hunter. One of the few things I bookmarked in my researched this year was a fantastic obituary published by the Guardian at the time of her death, that does the artist way more justice than anything I can writer here.

The Nude Drawings of Carmel Jenkin

Erotica // Tuesday, December 16, 2014
We can't believe in all the years we have run the Erotica blog on Juxtapoz.com, we have not posted these beautiful paintings and drawings of Carmel Jenkin. We came across these this morning, and like another great artist that paints and draws the human form, Rene Almanza, this series by Jenkin has a classic sense to them, and somewhere we think Egon Schiele is happy.

Nudes and Portraits by Ed Ross

Erotica // Monday, December 15, 2014
Ed Ross is brilliant portrait photographer, and we were taking a look at his nude portraits this morning and realized that we had not posted about his work in a few years. All his portraits are Tintypes, and he talks a lot about "wet plates,"  aka collodion, a photographic process dates from 1851, when talking about his work. Enjoy.

Nudes and Photos by Seoul's RangBang

Erotica // Thursday, December 11, 2014
We are just loving this series of black and white photos from Seoul, South Korea's RangBang, aka Sanghyeok Bang. Just a fantastic sense of light and shadows, sexual and voyeurtistc black and whites that hypnotize you as you gaze and wander through the series.

Ewa Doroszenko: Simulated Tortures

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, December 10, 2014
The installation comprises photographs of a woman’s body and several common office tools – a stapler, a pair of scissors, a punch, etc. The form of the photographs has been disturbed with physical stimuli, like piercing the paper, burning or sewing it with a thread. It is not a real body, but its photographic representation that undergoes tortures in the project. However, the stimuli that act on the (photographed) body are authentic and painful, indeed. Piercing, injuring and cutting the photographs serve as a simulation for real “pain test” - a deliberate act of inflicting physical suffering.
