After studying graphic design and fine art he started to work as a photographer. In 1992, Bela moved to New York and in 1999 he focused on still life photography, which is still the main direction of his work. Bela lives and works in New York.

The oftentimes bewildering practices of the Facebook censorship guidelines have struck again, temporarily banning The New Yorker's Facebook page for violating community standards. The offending material? This Mick Stevens cartoon. The representation of nudity in art posted on the site has been a contentious issue, but this particular instance seems especially absurd.
