German photographer Dietmar Busse's series Fauna and Flora are unique combination of photography and painting. Busse moved to New York in the 90's, beginning his career as a fashion photographer before becoming disillusioned with the constraints of working for others. For Busse, making art 'is like being on the road, except that the [artistic] journey is an inward one.'  

Coinciding with his exhibition at Paul Kasmin Gallery, The Standard, High Line is presenting an 8-foot tall scuplture entitled Squirtz by LA & Brooklyn-based artist Kenny Scharf. Kenny will be featured in the May issue of Juxtapoz Magazine!  

New York-based photographer William Miller is able to find beauty in the least likely of places, a polluted New York canal. Entitled, Gowanus Canal, his latest series of photographs explores the strange colors, patterns, and reflective oils of a Brooklyn canal.

Nicaragua-born, New York-based artist Chris Mendoza just released this beatiful process video. Mendoza combines a architectual drafting style he learned from his father with new inspiration fromthe letters, faces, and forms that covered the subways of New York City.

Lena Steinkühler imagines a colorful and animated New York City coming to life in her animation and motion graphics short, New York Biotopes. From blooming traffic lights to futuristic beach creatures, the video blends real footage of the city with her lively constructions.

In the 80’s, many areas in New York looked similar to this, desolate and decayed. You can see at the bottom of this photo that this buildings was grilled thoroughly with tags.

Hurricane Sandy’s aftermath left many cities and towns on the Eastern Seaboard inoperable or completely destroyed, many having to rebuild on their own without any government assistance. The beach communities of the Far Rockaway and Coney Island in Queens were greatly affected. A group of New Yorkers came together to help their recovery process by setting up a silent auction and fundraiser with 100% of the proceeds going to the communities.
