Restaurants are required by law in New York and most other states to post instructions on how to save someone who is choking. However, in the last couple of years NYC restaurant owners have started to replace the official poster (designed by Steve Duenes) with new ones designed by local artists, illustrators, and designers.

If you remember, Banksy just won the 2014 Webby for Person of the Year, basically because for one month in NYC, he took over the Internet with his brand of social media and street art in "Better Out Than In". We even got flak for calling it an Internet project. Well, we like to thank the Webby Awards for confirming our editorial. Now, Banksy just released a trailer for "Better Out Than In—The Movie," which could just be his acceptance video for the Webby Award, or an upcoming movie. Anyway, its on the Internet.

Matthew Palladino @ Garth Greenan Gallery, NYC

"Neanderthal Jeans" is Eddie Martinez's second show with half gallery following our "Studio Drawings" exhibition in September 2012. In an essay for his monograph (PictureBox), writer Glenn O'Brien compared Martinez's artwork to the jaundiced eye of de Kooning, reminding us that the eye is a door which swings both ways.

This Thursday, May 29, the Nepenthes shop will be hosting a surf photo show by Masahiro Noguchi coinciding with a pop-up shop of Mar Vista's Yellow Rat.

We went to the Knockdown Center in Brooklyn to check out the opening reception of two sculptors who emerged during the early 70’s in New York City as pioneers of non-traditional sculptural installation. Richard Nonas and Joel Shapiro have made significant contributions to our understanding of space, scale and structure.

You may have seen that 2x Juxtapoz cover aritst, London-based Conor Harrington, has a wonderful piece of art in "Art Truancy: Celebrating 20 Years of Juxtapoz Magazine" at Jonathan LeVine Gallery through June 14, 2014. You may also have seen on Conor's Instagram that he is prepping a new body of work, "Eat and Delete," for a special off-site Lazarides showing in NYC this Fall. The Laz team visited Conor in the studio recently, and noted, "will showcase 10-12 distinctive new large-scale canvases in continuation of the themes first explored in his 2012's Dead Meat."

Canada-based painter Andrew Salgado has been on the site in recent years for his figurative paintings, and we just read that Saatchi as "one of 12 to invest in today" (Sept 2013). Well, that ain't bad. The artist is set to open a new group of paintings, "Variations On a Theme" at One Art Space in NYC this Friday, May 23, 2014.
