Oaksterdam Mural Painted Over

Last week, a mural that pot smokers and even non-tokers appreciated was buffed back to beige. The building, which once housed the Oaklandish University, was recently sold and the new owner decided he did not want to be associated with the Pot College. Recent vandalism to the mural also may have effected the decision, but many people in the community were sad to see it go. It definitely added color and life to the rather colorless downtown area of Oakland.

"Bank (Bench) rescue" by Escif

Spanish muralist, Escif’s most recent piece depicts two riot police officers carrying a bench. The artist posted a photo of two riot police carrying a protester to accompany this wall. Recent protests during nationwide strikes in Europe and local strikes in Spain against austerity have resulted in massive violent clashes between protesters and police.

Steve Powers Mural promotes upcoming Kurt Vile Album

In promotion for fellow Philadelphia resident musician, Kurt Vile’s newest album, Steve Powers aka ESPO, has created a mural in the City of Brotherly Love. The album titled “ Waking on a pretty daze” will incorporate artwork from this mural into it’s packaging (Good choice Kurt Vile!) and will be released on Matador Records. Check out the mural off Front Street in Philly to see it in person.
