Is this not the best thing Barry McGee has ever been a part of, a fake bonfire with teenagers interviewing him? The Teen Arts Council in Boston began their “Around the Campfire” artist interview series and starting strong they had McGee participant. Endearing and sincere.

THE PAINTED DESERT PROJECT: LA PANDILLA Part 2

On Monday, we posted photos of an abandoned billboard that artist La Pandilla had brought to life for the Painted Desert Project. The ongoing project organized by artists, Yote and Jetsonorama, has brought numerous artists to the Navajo country region of Northern Nevada to meet local residents and create murals. La Pandilla has added another piece to the barren landscape, this time the images of a Buffalo and a Bear with a small town on their backs. This mural is located somewhere on the side of a merchant stand in Bitter Springs, AZ.

Geoff McFetridge "Site Fence Mural" @ Walker Art Center, Minneapolis

Geoff McFetridge, an artist who has done fantastic projects recently with Heath Ceramics and Bushmills, just completed a new mural piece at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. As the Walker notes, "In conjunction with his talk for the 2013 Insights Design Lecture Series, the Walker commissioned McFetridge to create artwork to cover construction fencing during the Walker’s rebricking project."

Brooklyn-based sign painting company, Colossal Media, has recreated the letter collage artwork of Greg Lamarche aka SP ONE on the side of a building off the Williamsburg Bridge. The mural is part of an ongoing project entitled “Big Brush Project.”

New Liqen Mural in Chichester, U.K.

With assistance from Namaz and a lift, Liqen painted this incredibly dark, highly detailed mural for a local street art festival in Chichester, U.K. We are curious as to how long it will take for someone to complain about the “negative imagery” and organize a group of people to get it painted over. You know it is inevitable with work like this, but we hope we are wrong.

Last summer we shared with you a project organized by artists, Yote and Jetsonorama, that brought artists to the Navajo country region of Northern Nevada to meet local residents and create murals. The Painted Desert Project has since hosted a number of artists to participate with the newest mural addition being from La Pandilla. The artist painted a bird with a hand for a wing on a vacant billboard in the barren landscape of the desert.

In a series of simplistic images painted by Spanish artist, Hyuro, a woman is interacting in various ways with a folding chair. This piece titled  “L´Attesa” which translates to “The Wait” in English was painted in conjunction with the Memorie Urbane Festival in Gaeta, Italy.
