Last night, we were able to check out the setup of the Chandran Gallery x Juxtapoz Iron To Gold/Ashes To Hope exhibition opening tonight only, January 4, in San Francisco. Singapore/San Francisco-based Chandran Gallery, in association with Juxtapoz and Power House Productions, present a special benefit exhibition, installation, and auction in support of an innovative artist-in-residence program in Detroit that features artists from around the country in hopes of creating a meeting place of creativity in the middle of the USA.

We got a little sneak peek into Iron To Gold/Ashes To Hope, the special benefit exhibition, installation, and auction in support of an innovative artist-in-residence program in Detroit that Juxtapoz is helping sponsor in collaboration with Chandran Gallery in San Francisco. The artists organizing the event, Monica Canilao and friends, are Bay Area based artists who have since moved and started a residency program in Detroit to bring together fellow artists from around the country to have a meeting place for collaborative projects and creative development.

Singapore/San Francisco-based Chandran Gallery, in association with Juxtapoz and Power House Productions, present a special benefit exhibition, installation, and auction in support of an innovative artist-in-residence program in Detroit. The exhibition, Iron To Gold/Ashes To Hope, will take place on Friday, January 4 at Chandran Gallery in SF, with an online auction beginning on January 4.

Close friends of the Juxtapoz family, Dennis McNett, Swoon (currently on the cover of the May 2012 issue) and Monica Canilao were in Milan recently to collaborate on an exhibition at Patricia Armocida. The exhibition, titled The Folding Of the Known World, will be on display through July 20, and features installation works and collaborations from all three US-based artists.

In August 2011, Monica Canilao and Kyle Ranson built an installation/exhibition at Krets Gallery in Malmö, Sweden called The More We Wander. Now, the Bay Area-based artists are bringing the collaboration to SF at Needles and Pens, opening on December 10.

We have worked with Monica Canilao on installation projects in Detroit and at Outside Lands in San Francisco this past summer, and she just opened a new installation exhibition with Bunnie Reiss at LoPo Gallery in San Francisco. Colin M Day, who has been making great videos around SF, captured Monica and Bunnie in preparation for the show at LoPo.

Last weekend, Juxtapoz celebrated the annual San Francisco Outside Lands Festival and curated the art portion of the event. Mike Shine, Monica Canilao, Skinner, Jeremy Fish, Tifffany Bozic, Mike Giant, and others all created work for the event, with Shine and Canilao building full, immersive installations and performance pieces. Day 3 at Outside Lands, where Juxtapoz was the official art curator this year, was pretty heavy on the crowds, as Arcade Fire, Beirut, and the Decemberists drew heavy audiences. We got a chance to go around and see Mike Shine, Monica Canilao, and Nick Kuszyk's work throughout the fair...

We spent the entire day yesterday at Outside Lands, watching all the artists come in and prepare their installations for the weekend music festival in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. We had one reporter embedded all day with Monica Canilao and her team as they began transforming the woods into a full interactive installation.
