"VOYAGE D’HERMES": When Moebius Created Work for HERMÈS

Juxtapoz // Thursday, August 01, 2013
The genius and brilliance of French illustrator and cartoonist Moebius, born Jean Giraud, just keeps growing, even after his death in 2012. We just saw that in 2011, the artist created a series of nine illustrations for fashion giant Hermes as part of their campaign titled "VOYAGE D’HERMES." Not quite sure where the works ended up, because in our research there doesn't appear to be apparel, but there was one commercial that was inspired by the Moebius series...

Once again appreciating... Moebius

Juxtapoz // Monday, May 27, 2013
Moebius is one-of-a-kind, a master that influenced some many artists that we cover on our site, and when we see works of his, we always feel compelled to share. When the world lost French artists, cartoonist, comic art, writer and concept artist Moebius (aka Jean Giraud) last year, it allowed for us all to reflect just how fantastic his body of work really was and continues to be...

Moebius in Erotica

Juxtapoz // Saturday, October 13, 2012
A provocative rendering from Jean Henri Gaston Giraud, a French comic artist who earned worldwide fame, predominantly under the pseudonym Mœbius, and to a lesser extent Gir, which later appeared mostly in the form of a boxed signature at the bottom of the artist's paintings. Moebius contributed storyboards and concept designs to numerous science fiction and fantasy films, including Alien, Willow, Tron(1982), and The Fifth Element.

We have been searching about these works that we saw from the late great Moebius when we were researching his work after his death earlier this year, and we finally found out yesterday that the work was Moebius in collaboration with Alejandro Jodorowsky for a small run comic Les Yeux du Chat. We read that it was made to be a gift to staff and friends of Les Humanoïdes Associés.

Going through a few old folders of inspiration this morning, and we were reminded of the great loss we have earlier this year in French illustrator Jean Giraud, aka Moebius. The French illustrator was famous and widely known for his work on the comics Blueberry and Silver Surfer, as well as his work with Heavy Metal, but we came across some stunning black and white illustrations this morning that we thought were beautiful in their simplicity.
