Everything is getting tightened up at MOCA's Art In the Streets at the moment, and just one walk around the building this morning we found pieces by Os Gemeos, AMAZE, and BLADE, and LEE and FUTURA were putting touhces on the massive mural on the side of the Geffen. Inside is amazing, but more on that later. Pictures after the jump . . .
We have spent the past five days at MOCA watching the final touches being put on the seminal Art In the Streets exhibit, and part of our time we have been watching Levi's put together their newest Levi’s® Workshops, the Film Workshop. For the entirety of the the Streets exhibit, Levi's will allow museum goers and the general public a chance to make their own films, from Super 8 to 3D, home movies to avant garde, amateur to professional. We have been following the progress of LEE's mural at MOCA's Art In the Streets all weekend, and yesterday evening finally took a few shots of the beautiful progress that he has been in making. LEE, our April 2011 subscriber cover artist and featured in the magazine, has been painting the large facade outside of the Geffen with PUSH and RISK, at least when we took these pictures. The other day, watching an installation come to life at MOCA's Art In the Streets, I was struggling to get my indoor photo settings right. And you know what? Martha Cooper stopped and taught me how to shoot proper indoor art conditions. That has to be a highlight. Right now at Carmichael Gallery in LA, Martha Cooper: Remix just opened, featuring Cooper's classic photos with over 50 artists creating their own unique interpretations of her iconic, historically significant imagery. We just saw what Craig Costello has in store for the world at MOCA (you will see soon as well), and here we have what Costello and his KRINK brand did with G-Shock last night (April 9) in Manhattan. HighSnobiety captured photos of the exhibition, titled appropriately, "Spray Paint the Walls." Video and images after the jump . . .
Earlier this week, we showed you a video of How & Nosm at work in NYC, and yesterday, a few blocks from the MOCA, we found the pair working on this massive mural in Downtown Los Angeles. We don't want to show too much of the incomplete figure, but the details of this multi-storied mural are impressive. More after the jump . . .
Tonight, Saturday, April 9, in San Francisco, Belgian-based street, fine, and installation artist, ROA, opens a new solo show at White Walls. We met ROA at MOCA last month and talked to him about this particular White Walls show, and he was excited to get working in San Francisco. With no previews available until showtime tonight, we look forward to showing you the work. More after the jump . . .
Juxtapoz is on site at the MOCA right now, checking in on the Art In the Streets exhibition, opening April 17th. The full line-up of the show was released yesterday, and of course, you know some in the show, as we covered a group in our April Art In the Streets issue. See the full line-up after the jump . . .
The buzz surrounding MOCA's Art In the Streets exhibit can't be any louder, as the response we have received over our April 2011 "Art In the Streets" issue done in conjunction with the show's curators has been off the charts. Maybe it was the Margaret Kilgallen cover? Whatever it is, its getting louder and louder, and just remember if you can't go, there is going to be the show's catalogue book. More after the jump . . .
There is just something great about listening to Swoon talk about her artwork. And rumpr has it from some people we know who were on the ground at MOCA, her work at "Art In the Streets" is looking like a stand-out. Here, she speaks with ACCLAIMmag about space, context and participation, all cores of her bodies of work. Watch after the jump . . .
