Mike Mills, creator of album artwork for Sonic Youth and the Beastie Boys (featured June, 2013), director of films, and all around creative created a new work for SFMOMA's Project Los Altos which we were lucky enough to check out earlier this year. Here is an excerpt from Mills' 38-minute film A Mind Forever Voyaging Through Strange Seas of Thought Alone: Silicon Valley Project.

Filmmaker, artist, and Beautiful Loser Mike Mills has the distinguished title of being the final album cover designer for the Beastie Boys and their 2011 LP, Hot Sauce Committtee Part Two. As Mills told us in the June 2013 issue, there were many ideas and outtakes from the Hot Sauce sessions, but the final became the abstract, Vexillology-inspired color pattern you see today. Here, in Mike's own words, how this came about.

The Juxtapoz June 2013 issue, a visual history of the Beastie Boys and tribute to MCA, is now officially on newsstands. As we compiled the issue, our contributing editor Joey Garfield put together a short clip from his interviews featuring some of the artists who contributed to the visual identity of the band. This is the history of the Beastie Boys, in their voices, from Bruce Davidson to Cey Adams, Glen E Friedman to Ricky Powell.

Today we are very pleased to show an inside look at our very special June 2013 issue, Beastie Boys: A Visual History + Tribute to MCA. For the special issue, we have interviewed every album cover artist, from Polly Wog Stewto Hot Sauce Committee Part Two, inner-sleeve artists, photographers, and even feature some of the outtakes that went into every album cover. We find the inside stories of how each album came to fruition through the experiences and artwork of each artist that is now part of the Beastie Boys canon. The issue was curated and compiled by our contributing editor-at-large, Joey Garfield.

Mike Mills, the filmmaker behind Beginners and Thumbsucker, and a designer and fine artist in his own right, has designed 5 new posters for Commune Design that our now available on their website. Paper Chase Press are the ones behind getting the limited edition posters printed, and Mr Mills (featured in the January 2010 issue) has some good words/phrases to say about, and written on, each poster.

This past weekend we stopped by Known Gallery to check out Aaron Rose’s Fire Sale. When Rose moved to Los Angeles from NYC in 2001, the Beautiful Losers curator left a "big black box of 1990?s memories" in storage space in Glendale. Now he is having a gallery style fire sale.
