We showed you last week a preview for Charlie Roberts' new show opening at Richard Heller Gallery in Santa Monica this Saturday, April 12, and now we have a look at the other show opening in the gallery, Canadian artists Neil Farber and Michael Dumontier's new work. As you may or may not know, Farber and Dumontier are founding members of Winnipeg’s Royal Art Lodge, a collaborative group of artists including Marcel Dzama, and Jonathan Pylypchuk. And now they make paintings together... and we like them very much.

We can't believe this book release slipped through our grasp last year, as one of our favorite art series of the past few years is Michael Dumontier and Neil Farber's "Animals With Sharpies." Drawn & Quarterly, a great Montreal-based publisher, released the series in book form last year. As the press release states, each painting depicts "an animal holding a sharpie, ostensibly writing a message. These messages are varied in nature: they are political and religious tracts, confessions, recipes, arithmetic problems and more..."

Winnipeg-based fine artist, Neil Farber, has a solo exhibition, Slugging, currently showing at Edward Thorp Gallery in NYC. We personally have been fans of Farber's work since he was a founding member of The Royal Art Lodge, an artist collective based in Winnipeg with Michael Dumontier and Marcel Dzama.

We were longtime fans of the Royal Art Lodge, a collective from Winnipeg that consisted of Marcel Dzama, Michael Dumontier, and Neil Farber. We even profiled their work in Feb 2007. Now we are very much into the wit, humor, and strong conceptual paintings of the second incarnation of Royal Art Lodge, Michael Dumontier and Neil Farber Ltd. A portfolio after the jump . . .
