In L.A.: POP-EYECONIC GROUP SHOW AT CHG

This past weekend we stopped by Corey Helford Gallery for the opening reception of their latest group exhibit “Pop-Eyeconic.” Looking to explore the iconic characters who define popular artistic symbolism, we have asked an ambitious and diverse group of artists - from street to surreal to New Classicist - to provide one new work each, featuring their choice of POP ICONS that have special meaning to them, but rendering the icons in each artist’s own particular style and placing them in situations relevant to that artist’s usual subject matter.

This Saturday, April 6, Thinkspace Gallery will open a new show, Heavenly Creatures, with Australian artist, Meggs. Heavenly Creatures will feature ambitious new works by Meggs ranging from painting, sculpture, and installation. Working across media, the artist will also be creating a large scale thaumatrope as part of the exhibition installation – an antiquated Victorian device used historically to demonstrate the persistence of vision.   David Hooke, aka Meggs, is a designer, painter, and street artist who works in a variety of mediums.   This multi talented artist resides in Melbourne, Australia and is also a member of the Everfresh Studio.  Formally trained as a graphic designer, Meggs began doing work in the streets in the early 2000's. We are speculating based on his work that he spent numerous hours buried in between pages of comic books as a child.
