Street Art // Thursday, June 25, 2015
The 5th show on Søren Solkær's SURFACE world tour opened Friday, June 12 at Øksnehallen in central Copenhagen. This exhibition covers a 3.500 square meter area and features 122 portraits in large formats. The portraits will be hung in a network of "streets" - resembling walls of an imaginary city. In the week leading up to the opening, six international and highly esteemed artists were invited to create large-scale murals in the streets of Copenhagen. The artist are: Conor Harrington (UK), ROA (Belgium), Borondo (Spain), DALeast (China), Maya Hayuk (US) and HuskMitNavn (DK). They all produced murals in the Vesterbro area of Copenhagen, that is also the home of the exhibition venue.

As we previously noted, Maya Hayuk was up to bat on the famed Houston & Bowery wall in Manhattan, just after Swoon completed a mural a few months back. Now Maya has completed the wall, and in the midst of the snow and cold in NYC, this is a bit of geometric shine for the neighborhood.

Juxtapoz is proud to announce the newest addition to our ongoing book series with Gingko Press, "Juxtapoz Psychedelic." The book serves as both a story of our magazine's origins and current state, with Psychedelic Art once again emerging as a fascinating and endlessly experimental genre. From classic names such as Alex Grey and Keiichi Tanaami to a new generation of universe expanders in Killian Eng and cover artist Andy Gillmore, Juxtapoz Psychedelic is one for the visionaries.

Brooklyn-based artist, Maya Hayuk, has been enlisted as the next artist to paint the famed wall at Houston and Bowery in New York, and she has been making swift moves dousing it in color. The wall was previous decorated by the work of Swoon before the blizzard gave graffiti writers a nice opportunity to bomb it.

Spectrum Art Projects is a nonprofit organization that aims to bring public art to communities as a way to empower individuals and reshape communities. In the past, the project coordinated spaces for Andrew Schoultz and Jesse Harris to paint murals in Toronto, Canada, and now, Maya Hayuk has participated in creating a new mural entitled “PMA.” The mural is located in the courtyard at The Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art at 1075 Queen Street West in Toronto.
