No question, we lost a legend last week with the passing of Maurice Sendak, and the New York Times published a portfolio this past weekend titled "Thanks, Maurice," inviting artists to re-imagine and create tributes to the author of Where The Wild Things Are. Geoff McFetridge, Gary Taxali, Jon Klassen, Marc Rosenthal, and Art Spiegelman were just a few of the artists who contributed tributes.

We lost another legend this week, with the passing of Where the Wild Things Are author Maurice Sendak early this morning. He was 83. Sendak illustrated over 100 books and authored over 20 more, but it was his 1963 landmark illustrated book, Where the Wild Things Are, and his character Max, that made Sendak one of the most famed authors of children's literature ever.

Maurice Sendak to release new book, "Bumble-Ardy" http://www.juxtapoz.com/current/maurice-sendak-to-release-new-book-bumble-ardy http://www.juxtapoz.com/current/maurice-sendak-to-release-new-book-bumble-ardy Maurice Sendak to release new book,
Maurice Sendak is back! One of the greatest children's authors is set to release his first book in 30 years, a book he authored and illustrated titled, "Bumble-Ardy." If that sounds familar, it's because it is based on a character Sendak developed in 1971 for Sesame Street, a short that Jim Henson produced. More information after the jump . . .

The Rosenbach Museum and Library was given a nice gift, and an assignment: Take Maurice Sendak's Chertoff mural, once housed in Lionel and Roslyn Chertoff's Upper West Side apartment, and perform a unique conservation and preservation task on what most believe to be the only Sendak mural in existence.
