Jonathan LeVine Gallery in NYC is set to open 3 new shows at their NYC space this Saturday, May 18: Souther Salazar's Souvenirs, Marco Mazzoni's Animaera,  and Andy Kehoe's Luminous Reverie. Guess what? These are all artists we want to see and endorse, and they have been in the magazine, most recently Mr. Mazzoni. The shows are on display through June 15, 2013. 

Galleria Patricia Armocida will be presenting the first solo exhibition in Milan by Marco Mazzoni entitled Il Ricordo è Un Consolatore Molesto (Memory is a Bothersome Consoler) on Tuesday, February 19 at 7:00 PM. Mazzoni, a genius of detail, uses colored pencils to create an intricate chiaroscuro overlapping light and dark for an intense and profound glow.

Spoke Art Gallery in San Francisco just opened the Moleskine Project #2, a group exhibition that features a spread page taken from the sketchbooks of more than 50 artists from around the world. It brings together a broader network of sketchbooks from renowned illustrators, concept artists, oil painters and more. We stopped by Corey Helford Gallery for their latest exhibition “Crucifixion,” a group exhibition inspired by the images and symbolic influence of the crucifixion. The exhibition features new works from Glenn Barr, Ray Caesar, Victor Castillo, Ron English, Natalia Fabia, Korin Faught, Sarah Folkman, Nancy Fouts, Eric Joyner, Benjamin Bryce Kelley, Maria Kreyn, Marco Mazzoni, Buff Monster, Annie Owens, Michael Page, Chris Pugliese, Candice Tripp, Mark Dean Veca, Nicola Verlato, Tom Neely, Lola, Tom Bagshaw, and Amy Sol.

The end of year brings us to our closing issue of 2012, and who better than London-based Conor Harrington to grace the cover for a second time (scoring at home, October 2008 was his first cover). We lean heavily on painters and fine artists this issue with pieces on Nicola Verlato, Futura, Julie Heffernan, Marco Mazzoni, Grady Gordon, and Gregory Euclide, plus conversations with Jen Stark, Bob Dob, and a photo essay from the heart of Johannesburg.

Italian artist Marco Mazzoni, who we have featured on the site and will be featured in the December issue of Juxtapoz, just opened a new series of colored pencil works, River of Milk, at Roq La Rue in Seattle. We can't believe it, but this is the solo debut of Mazzoni stateside. What have we Americans been thinking?

We came across some of Marco Mazzoni's new moleskin sketches for his upcoming show at Roq La Rue Gallery in Seattle. This piece, “The Moralist”, out of colored pencils and pen on paper from his moleskin, is specifically for his show, “The River of Milk”, opening October 12th. Can't wait to see what else he has in store.

The independent spirit of alternative art and music is celebrated in "Go With The Flow," a visual tribute to the band Queens of the Stone Age that features contemporary artists from around the world, including Marco Mazzoni, Hsiao Ron Cheng, Jessican Joslin, Andrew Hem, and many more. Organized by BonelliLAB and ARTLAB, the show runs from August 11 - September 2 at Villa Bottini in Lucca, Italy.

Tattoo artist Diogo Quadro out of Belgium recreated the work of Marco Mazzoni on skin! Mazzoni's work usually includes portraits of mysterious women covered in flowers and butterflies, and most often missing their eyes. It is pretty cool to see his work off of paper and onto flesh!

In this week's edition of Artist Sixers, we interview Italian illustrator Marco Mazzoni. His breathtaking work, masterfully rendered in colored pencil, depicts partially faded female faces framed by delicate botanical tendrils and lively creatures. Mazzoni's plants and animals are so intensely vibrant and vital, they seem to consume not only the women's faces, but the entire canvas itself.
