RIP Batle

Graffiti // Saturday, June 28, 2014
Over this past weekend Batle's life was tragically cut short. He had LA on lock with scribes, stickers, tags, and pieces and had countless streaks and pieces on freights as well. This is a huge loss to the LA graffiti scene and he will be missed.

Preview: Parra "Same Old Song" @ HVW8 Gallery, Los Angeles

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, June 25, 2014
We are huge fans of Parra, and his March 2008 cover ranks as one of our favorites of all time. And, we quite the 3 artworks that the Amsterdam-based artist sent for our 20th Anniversary show, "Art Truancy," at Jonathan LeVine Gallery in NYC this past May/June. The artist is back at HVW8 Gallery in Los Angeles with a new series of works, "Same Old Song," all visual treats that not only reflect the artist's sense of humor, but this roots in poster art where communication is a practice in simplyfying complex ideas.

Jacub Gagnon: "Worlds Collide" @ Thinkspace

Juxtapoz // Friday, June 20, 2014
Exhibiting a technically meticulously detailed array of acrylic paintings, Toronto based artist Jacub Gagnon opens his solo show at Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles on Saturday June, 21st. He creates these exacting works with minute brushstrokes and layers, creating tensions between the artificial and the natural that reach to realms of the propped, plausible and absurd. Illuminating the undeniably effective visual contrasts with a stark black background, Gagnon stages a beautiful realistic portrayal of characters. The odd, the absurd and the frictions of nature intrigue and attract while showcasing impressive talent.
