Jacub Gagnon: "Worlds Collide" @ Thinkspace

Juxtapoz // Friday, June 20, 2014
Exhibiting a technically meticulously detailed array of acrylic paintings, Toronto based artist Jacub Gagnon opens his solo show at Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles on Saturday June, 21st. He creates these exacting works with minute brushstrokes and layers, creating tensions between the artificial and the natural that reach to realms of the propped, plausible and absurd. Illuminating the undeniably effective visual contrasts with a stark black background, Gagnon stages a beautiful realistic portrayal of characters. The odd, the absurd and the frictions of nature intrigue and attract while showcasing impressive talent.

DE Crew Production in Los Angeles

Graffiti // Sunday, June 15, 2014
Last weekend members of the DE crew came out to Los Angeles to give a wall off a busy freeway a little makeover. We were lucky enough to be invited out to snap some photos while they got their spray on. Everyone's pieces came out super sick and will make for something nice to look at while you're stuck in that awful LA traffic. Thanks to the DE crew for letting us come through and being super welcoming and friendly!

Closing: Dina Goldstein "Fallen Princesses" @ CHG Circa Gallery

Juxtapoz // Friday, June 13, 2014
You have one more day to check out Dina Goldstein’s U.S. Debut, a solo exhibition of the pop surrealist photographer’s most recently published series of work, “Fallen Princesses” and “In the Dollhouse”. Goldstein’s own “storyography” conceptual style likely blends the political satire of fellow pop surrealist Ron English and the hyperreal documentary photo technique of Dorothea Lange, creating a contemporary statement unique to Goldstein’s experience in the 21st century.

Opening: Mars-1 "Toward A Distant Dawn" @ Martha Otero, LA

Juxtapoz // Monday, June 09, 2014
As you maybe saw on the site last week, we did a studio visit with San Francisco-based artist, Mars-1, as he prepared for his solo show, "Toward A Distant Dawn," at Martha Otero Gallery in Los Angeles. That show opened this past Saturday, and we got in the old van and drove down to the Southland to see our neighbor show off his new paintings and impressive bronze sculptures. Don't try and lift those. They are heavy.
