The Victorian Inspired Work of Dan Hillier

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, September 07, 2011
We have been huge fans of London-based artist Dan Hillier for quite some time, as we found his work to be an ornate, illustrative universe of Victorian era with a twist of Eyes Wide Shut regal nature. And, even better, the illustrations and prints are all just a bit creepy and dark.

Brian Dettmer has recently focused on altering books into unique sculptural art objects, but he has in the past altered cassette tapes into a skeleton, and turned a typical road map into a human head. Starting on September 8, 2011, he will be showing at London's Black Rat Projects.

Juxtapoz // Thursday, August 25, 2011
On view until August 27th at Sadie Coles HQ in London is X-Rated by William Copley. Copley's provocative and sexually graphic paintings draw from a combination of pop and american folk aesthetics that implement seemingly boneless flesh and bright, abstracted, patterned background of wall paper, blankets and floor tiles from the seventies.

Juxtapoz // Monday, August 22, 2011
It may not be the most polished series of photoshopped images on the web, but it may be one of the more poignant and clever series. London Photoshoplooters takes acutal found photos of rioters from across England and applies a more absurdity to the chaos.

Sugar High and other Works by Slinkachu

Juxtapoz // Friday, August 19, 2011
These two pieces by Slinkachu are a few months old now, but this piece, titled "Sugar High," done on the streets of London near Kings Cross, is pretty darn clever. As you may know, Slinkachu is noted for their street photography and mini-installations in various outdoor environments around the world.

Sao Paulo-born, San Francisco-based Pacolli makes "brilliant, zippy, colourful work about gangsta rap, dreams and mountains" (according to Pictures on Walls). Speaking of POW, Pacolli has an exhibition at the London print shop/gallery up through the end of August.
