Pablo Picasso x Gjon Mili Light Painting Photographs

Life Magazine recently released a series of photographs by Gjon Mili, a pioneer of stroboscopic light photography, of Pablo Picasso in 1949. Mili visited the artist and showed him some of his light painting photographs and Picasso initially gave him 15 minutes to experiment. After seeing the results, Picasso was so fascinated he posed for five more sessions.

Mili was known for technical innovations, and Picasso, appear of Mili's talents, wanted to try and few experiments of his own. Alas, these light drawings were part of the documentation. In order to fully understand what light painting is, because, I don't know, I think it needed a definition, I went to Wikipedia and found this: "Light painting is a photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving a hand-held light source or by moving the camera." Knowing this, Simon Berger has created a fantastic series of light paintings made to appear as if light was raining on the figure in the photos.

Perhaps our favorite part of this series of new light paintings by Brian Matthew Hart is that these were created in a western-Illinois attic. Something about the locale makes these even better. His light paintings appear like photographs of the simplest daily activities, adding an element of surrealism to an otherwise mundane scenario.
