Leah Yerpe is a Brooklyn, New York-based illustrator, capturing images of a dream-like state. Yerpe paints bodies in a variety of different twisting poses, floating or falling into emptyness. Recently previewing her work "Stellify" at The Gallery at Le Poisson Rouge, Manhattan, New York, illustrating the human body in all it's forms has become Yerpe's signature style...

'Leah Yerpe recontextualizes the human figure in highly choreographed drawings and paintings. Bodies are multiplied in different poses, twisting, floating and falling on a ground purged of contextualizing marks. She believes that art is an exploration of contradictions and raw emotions that need to communicate the intangible. Her models are given free reign to move their bodies without direction in a sort of immediate, improvised dance...'

We caught the work of Brooklyn-based Leah Yerpe on Booooooom yesterday, and then we spent a good amount of time exploring all the works she had on her site. Charcoal drawings, big and small, paintings too, Yerpe captures a fleeting, dreamlike experience of floating and flying, powerful in its simplicity.
