This past week, as Juxtapoz's illustration editor, I was granted a trip out to Israel to explore the rich cultural and creative landscape in and around Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. I came across the two person show Klone and Meshullam put together at Alfred Gallery, and set up some time to chat with the amazingly accommodating artist Klone in his studio in southern Tel Aviv...

Vibe Israel: Broken Fingaz

Illustration // Monday, December 23, 2013
I was pretty hyped to see work from Haifa, Israel based psych-pop-street crew and illustration / design team Broken Fingaz on my recent trip out to visit the growing and flourishing art scene in Israel. There is certainly no shortage of creative energy in the visual arts in Tel Aviv. Thanks to Hasayeret for pointing it out on the streets, and to Vibe Israel / Kinetis for making it possible for me to travel to the Holy Land on behalf of Juxtapoz. Truly unforgettable.

Vibe Israel: Assaf Benharroch Illustration

Illustration // Monday, December 23, 2013
Assaf Benharroch’s is an Israeli artist with a background in animation and a current focus on his own illustration style. These rich, lush  images are the result that bring his interest in printing techniques into his illustrated works. I became more aware of his work after recently visiting Tel Aviv, Israel and focusing on the thriving scene in the middle east...

Vibe Israel: Adi Nes

Erotica // Sunday, December 22, 2013
On my recent trip to Israel, I came in contact with the work of Adi Ness, an internationally known Israeli photographer that shows with Sommer Gallery in Tel Aviv. As a gay male, Nes often incorporates Israeli men, soldiers and the essence of masculinity in his work, though claims that the homoerotic element found in his work is never intentional. "It simply happens - it's part of my identity. I don't think I make them erotic; I think that the eros in the pictures is like the eros in culture. It comes out from inside...

I was fortunate enough to spend this past week experiencing the visual art scene in Tel Aviv, Israel and to discover the work of Tal Amitai-Lavi, an Israeli artist (born Israel 1969) who shows with Chelouche Gallery for Contemporary Art. As a multidisciplinary artist, Amitai-Lavi's work straddles the boundary line between the two-dimensional and three-dimensional, and is characterized by love of craftsmanship, sensitivity to detail and an exploration of unusual materials (sewing thread, salt, plasticine, etc....

Vibe Israel: Omer Fast at Dvir Gallery

Erotica // Saturday, December 21, 2013
On behalf of Juxtapoz via non-profit Vibe Israel / Kinetis, I was fortunate enough to visit the flourishing creative (and erotic) scene in the middle eastern State of Israel earlier this month. One of the many museums and galleries that we visited while in Tel Aviv, was the impressive Dvir Gallery, showing a 55 minute film by artist Omer Fast. It explored 24 hours in the life of four separate porn stars, split into four channels. Fast's X-rated video 'Everything That Rises Must Converge' is a bare-all look at the LA porn industry...

Vibe Israel: Ayelet Carmi at the Museum of Art, Ein Harod

Illustration // Saturday, December 21, 2013
As the illustration and print/web editor for Juxtapoz, I was recently invited to take a trip out to Israel via non-profit organization Vibe Israel / Kinetis to explore the vibrant creative scene and in and around Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Experiencing the energy and passion that lies within the visual art scene in the this middle eastern state, I came in contact with a countless array of Israeli artists that definitely don't get as much Western exposure as they deserve. One of them being Ayelet Carmi, an artist that lives and works in Herzliya, Israel...
