A busy weekend in NYC during the Frieze Art Fair celebration saw the opening of Kehinde Wiley's newest body of work, An Economy of Grace, at Sean Kelly Gallery. The exhibition marked a new departure from Wiley’s previous work and subject matter by depicting African-American women, his first-ever series dedicated to female subjects.

January 2010 cover artist, Kehinde Wiley, has 4 paintings from his The World Stage—Israel series on display with Roberts + Tilton Gallery at ARCOMadrid in Madrid, Spain through February 19. The series continues Wiley's theme of documenting local residents of otherwise overlooked populations in the style of the great masters of portrait art.

If you had 10 hours to spare on a Friday in Miami, then the Art Basel centerpiece fair was where you would go. With Gagosian, Lisson, White Cube, Regen Projects, Blum & Poe, Roberts and Tilton, David Zwirner, Chelm & Read and hundreds of others all with booths at the Miami Convention Center, we took the mega tour.

After the NY Times published an article this morning about the Jewish Museum of New York acquiring a piece of Kehinde Wiley's The World Stage: Israel series, we also learned that Wiley will be showing his Israel series at the museum in early 2012.

Kehinde Wiley continues his World Stage series with a new exhibition opening at Roberts & Tilton in LA this Saturday, April 9, titled The World Stage: Israel. Wiley traveled to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem to create the portraits in the series. More information after the jump . . .

Kehinde Wiley (Juxtapoz #108) is a force to be reckoned with, who is known for his vibrant, larger-than-life reinterpretations of classical portraits featuring young African-American men.
