P.P.O.W is pleased to announce Sky is Falling, our seventh solo exhibition of work by Julie Heffernan (featured in Juxtapoz, December 2012). Heffernan’s new paintings explore various levels of societal chaos, environmental catastrophes and humankind’s role as nature’s keeper. The figures are heroically determined to gather and collect elements of a world that is falling apart leaving only time to answer if, and when, the bag will drop.

Featured in our December 2012 issue on newsstands now, Julie Heffernan just opened Sky's Falling, a new body of work at Mark Moore Gallery in Culver City. The Brooklyn-based artist has taken her previous focus of self-portraits and pushed toward a series of sociopolitical works based our relationship with nature. The work is on display now through December 22, 2012.

The end of year brings us to our closing issue of 2012, and who better than London-based Conor Harrington to grace the cover for a second time (scoring at home, October 2008 was his first cover). We lean heavily on painters and fine artists this issue with pieces on Nicola Verlato, Futura, Julie Heffernan, Marco Mazzoni, Grady Gordon, and Gregory Euclide, plus conversations with Jen Stark, Bob Dob, and a photo essay from the heart of Johannesburg.

Incredibly intricate oil paintings by American artist, Julie Heffernan. Her works are a hybrid of genres and styles, mixing allegory, portraiture, history painting, and still life, while in title they are all presented as self portraits
