The May 2012 issue of Juxtapoz is our special examination on the state of Public Art in 2012. We have spent over a year discussing the topic of community sevice and Public Art programs with festival organizers, politicians in the US and abroad, and artists about their experiences developing Public Art initiatives and bodies of work, and how their experiences can be blueprints for other artists and cities to follow to better communities around the world. This issue is what we learned. Preview after the jump . . .

With JR being one of four cover artists for our special May 2012 Public Art investigation and report, we look at the French photographer and public artist's project with famed Chinese artist Lui Bolin on the streets of NYC. Shot on Elizabeth Street in Manhattan, the video shows the bes of JR's work with the camouflage style of Bolin.

Famed photography wheat paste artist, JR and Chinese photographer, Liu Bolin, aka “The Invisible Man” recently collaborated on the following wall on Spring St. in Manhattan. JR was completely painted by Bolin in front of his work to appear invisible. Great job! Stay tuned for a special feature on JR in an upcoming Juxtapoz, and make sure to check out Bolin's newest exhibition in NYC at Eli Klein.

A little bit of inspiration for your Tuesday afternoon. French street artist and activist, JR, just released this video about his time in Los Angeles putting together his The Wrinkles of the City chapter in Southern California. The video captures the backstory behind JR's large-scale photo murals, and it gives you insight into how much research and time the artist puts into each city he completes his Inside Out project.

French artist and social activist JR opened a new exhibition, Encrages, at Galerie Perrotin in Paris this past November, and the gallery just released a video featuring British mainstays Massive Attack playing surrounded my massive (hey-o) projections of JR's work. A well done video by Guillaume Cagniard. The show officially ends on January 7, 2012.
