Jen Stark, March 2012

Vault // Friday, July 05, 2013
Jen Stark will be opening a new body of work at Toronto's Cooper Cole Gallery, tonight, July 5, and we were looking back on our archives and wanted to share our feature with Stark from the March 2012 issue. Stark has always blown us away with her incredible paper works, and the name of her new show, Vortextural, seems to fit the work aptly. Enjoy the read.

Preview: Jen Stark "Vortextural" @ Cooper Cole, Toronto

Juxtapoz // Monday, July 01, 2013
One of our favorite artists, Jen Stark, is set to open a solo show, Vortexural, at Cooper Cole Gallery in Toronto this Friday, July 5. As the gallery notes, Jen Stark's work is distinct and undeniably recognizable for its cyclical, colourful, op-art attributes. Stark fuels her craftsmanship with inspiration drawn from an interest in mathematics, natural organisms, and outer space. Optical illusions, colour gradations, and repetition play key roles in her sculptural works. The visual outcome is optically alluring and generates an ambiance of the surreal. These bold, colourful installations suggest a fantastical, psychedelic atmosphere and welcomes the viewer into the realm of Stark's imagination.

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, November 07, 2012
The end of year brings us to our closing issue of 2012, and who better than London-based Conor Harrington to grace the cover for a second time (scoring at home, October 2008 was his first cover). We lean heavily on painters and fine artists this issue with pieces on Nicola Verlato, Futura, Julie Heffernan, Marco Mazzoni, Grady Gordon, and Gregory Euclide, plus conversations with Jen Stark, Bob Dob, and a photo essay from the heart of Johannesburg.

New Works from Jen Stark

Juxtapoz // Friday, March 16, 2012
We just noticed that Jen Stark, the South Florida based artist who was featured in our March 2012 issue, just completed two new paper-cut works that are available at Cooper Cole in Toronto. The works are highly detailed paper cuts, with numerous colors and directional pieces all into one complete paper cut sculpture.

Look Inside: March 2012 Issue

Juxtapoz // Thursday, February 16, 2012
The March 2012 issue of Juxtapoz, featuring Andrew Schoultz on the cover, is now on newsstands and on our webstore. In a weird way, this issue began on the shores of Norway and ended in a desert in Tucson, Arizona, and found itself in the SFMoMA and in a studio in Miami, Florida. And we followed filmmaker, author, and performance artist Miranda July as she released her newest book, It Chooses You. Full preview after the jump . . .

Hand-Cut Paper Sculptures by Jen Stark

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, February 15, 2012
One of our current favorite artists is Miami-based Jen Stark, currently featured in a 14-page interview and spotlight in the March 2012 issue of Juxtapoz. Some of our favorite work from Stark are her hand-cut paper sculptures, some that seem to almost explode and permeate off a wall, or create an illusion that the works descend deep into a tunnel of color within the gallery's walls. Stark's work is stunning to see in person.
