We announced yesterday on the site that Juxtapoz was lucky to be invited to participate in what will be a fantastic public art and exhibition in Chicago during Lollapolooza. Shepard Fairey has curated a "Art Alliance: The Provocateurs" in Chicago from July 31—August 4, 2014, featuring a fantastic roster of artists from all mediums and eras. Today, we look at one participating artist, Jen Stark.

For the last 20 years, Juxtapoz Art and Culture Magazine has stood for the outsiders, to create a place and dialogue for artists who stood outside of the museum programming of the time but were creating substantial and amazing work that needed its own historical context. We have been lucky in our 20th year to celebrate special events in NYC and San Francisco, but we are even luckier to get a chance to celebrate with our July 2014 cover artist, Shepard Fairey, as he curates a major public art and exhibition, "Art Alliance: The Provocateurs" in Chicago during Lollapolooza, July 31—August 4, 2014.

Jen Stark will be opening a new body of work at Toronto's Cooper Cole Gallery, tonight, July 5, and we were looking back on our archives and wanted to share our feature with Stark from the March 2012 issue. Stark has always blown us away with her incredible paper works, and the name of her new show, Vortextural, seems to fit the work aptly. Enjoy the read.

One of our favorite artists, Jen Stark, is set to open a solo show, Vortexural, at Cooper Cole Gallery in Toronto this Friday, July 5. As the gallery notes, Jen Stark's work is distinct and undeniably recognizable for its cyclical, colourful, op-art attributes. Stark fuels her craftsmanship with inspiration drawn from an interest in mathematics, natural organisms, and outer space. Optical illusions, colour gradations, and repetition play key roles in her sculptural works. The visual outcome is optically alluring and generates an ambiance of the surreal. These bold, colourful installations suggest a fantastical, psychedelic atmosphere and welcomes the viewer into the realm of Stark's imagination.

The end of year brings us to our closing issue of 2012, and who better than London-based Conor Harrington to grace the cover for a second time (scoring at home, October 2008 was his first cover). We lean heavily on painters and fine artists this issue with pieces on Nicola Verlato, Futura, Julie Heffernan, Marco Mazzoni, Grady Gordon, and Gregory Euclide, plus conversations with Jen Stark, Bob Dob, and a photo essay from the heart of Johannesburg.

This past weekend we stopped by the opening for Jen Stark’s latest solo exhibition at Martha Otero Gallery in Los Angeles. To the Power Of consists of a wide variety of Stark’s signature sculptures meticulously crafted from paper, wood and other organic materials as well as a few paintings. Photos and more after the jump..

We highly recommend checking out Jen Stark's show that opens tonight, September 28, in Los Angeles. Martha Otero Gallery is pleased to present Jen Stark's first solo exhibition in Los Angeles, To the Power Of. Stark's work is instantly recognizable for its breathtaking color spectrums rendered in mind-bending forms cut from paper, wood and other organic materials.

We just noticed that Jen Stark, the South Florida based artist who was featured in our March 2012 issue, just completed two new paper-cut works that are available at Cooper Cole in Toronto. The works are highly detailed paper cuts, with numerous colors and directional pieces all into one complete paper cut sculpture.
