Barry McGee has become a name that any art novice or expert has come to know and respect. Any event or art exhibition tied to McGee's name is guaranteed to have art world's ears will perk up. This was absolutely the case for the show that was recently organized right here in San Francisco, titled Contemporary Arts Centre. McGee uses a very specific word to describe the exhibition and opening reception, simply a "happening."

Over the weekend a large crowd of attendees stopped by Needles and Pens in San Francisco for the opening of Everything Ever and Nothing Never.  Curated by Juxtapoz contributing editor, Austin McManus, this group show consists of an eclectic roster of established and emerging artists working in a variety of mediums.

The March 2012 issue of Juxtapoz, featuring Andrew Schoultz on the cover, is now on newsstands and on our webstore. In a weird way, this issue began on the shores of Norway and ended in a desert in Tucson, Arizona, and found itself in the SFMoMA and in a studio in Miami, Florida. The proficient sign painter and designer, Jeff Canham, was recently visited by Theflopbox at his shared studio, Woodshop, in the Sunset District of San Francisco.  Jeff’s work, accompanied by an interview will be featured in our upcoming March 2012 printed issue.  Here is a selection of photos from the artist’s workspace.

These two San Francisco-based creatives teamed up to create a series of beautiful and clever birdhouses. Luke Bartels woodworking skills combined with Jeff Canham's sign painting prowess yielded some very eye-pleasing structures for our feathered brethren.

This past Saturday night, we stopped by Guerrero Gallery's newest group show, An American Language, featuring the works of 12 traditional American sign painters. The show featured the works of Jeff Canham, Mike Meyer, Derek McDonald, Dusty Madsen, Gary Martin, Josh Luke, Gary Green, Greg Jones, and others.

Quickly becoming a San Francisco staple, sign painters New Bohemia Signs will be opening a solo show at Guerrero Gallery. New Bohemia will be sharing the space with two other great sign painters, Jeff Canham and Stephen Powers.
