25 Years Ago Today, Jean-Michel Basquiat Died

Juxtapoz // Monday, August 12, 2013
On August 12, 1988, one of the most influential and famed artists to emerge from late 20th Century American art, especially downtown NYC art, combining Neo-expressionist, graffiti, music, and poetry,  died from a heroin overdose at the age of 27. Jean-Michel Basquiat, in his life and in his death, was both a symbol of the power of art and creativity, but also a symbol of the power of the art market. He continues to this day to be a favorite amongst our readers, and art collectors around the world.
