Andreco: "Flags Up and Tongues Sticked Out", New Year Eve 2015, Bologna http://www.juxtapoz.com/street-art/andreco-flags-up-and-tongues-sticked-out-new-year-eve-2015-bologna http://www.juxtapoz.com/street-art/andreco-flags-up-and-tongues-sticked-out-new-year-eve-2015-bologna Andreco:
Since meeting Andreco during Nuart 2014, he has fast become one of our favorite street and public artists. The balance of interventions, performance, environmentally-focused art with just purely beautiful aesthetics makes the Italian artist one of our favorites (and soon to be featured in an upcoming issue). On New Year's Eve a few weeks ago, in Bologna, Italy, Andreco and friends staged "Flags Up and Tongues Sticked Out," a performance piece, with each friend asked to "paint one side of a flag and burn it with the burning sculpture Vecchione in the main square of Bologna for The New Year Eve."

Italian artist Andreco was one of our absolute favorite aritsts from the Nuart program this year. With an emphasis on environmental and political themes, Andreco works in multiple genres, including street art, gallery work, and the occasional performance and installation piece. His new show, "From Clouds to Rocks," is up now at Traffic Gallery in Bergamo, Italy, and Andreco summarizes it as "inspired by the natural transformations and the phase transitions between solid, liquid and gaseous states of matter. In particular from gas to solid (deposition) and from solid to gas (sublimation). The show is part of the research work called 'Nature as Art'."

Simply put, this is a portrait about marble. This is an excerpt video of "Italian artist and filmmaker Yuri Ancarani capturing the otherworldly landscape of a marble quarry in the Apuan Alps, Northwest Italy, as Il Capo (The Chief) guides his men through the extraction process." Its spellbinding, beautiful, and really, the otherworldly label is just about right.
