Following on the June 2014 issue with Mark Ryden, the July issue features another pillar of Juxtapoz's growth and international success over the past 20 years: Shepard Fairey. Amazingly enough, Shepard had only been on 1.5 covers in our two decades of publishing, and with a brand new body of work currently on display at the Halsey Institute in Charleston, South Carolina, works that were curated to sit alongside prints by Jasper Johns.

All year long, Juxtapoz is celebrating its 20th Anniversary by showcasing the pivotal figures in contemporary art over the past two decades. Some artists are blue chip, some are underground heroes, others are behind-the-scenes legends. This month, we honor one of the great artists from Los Angeles during our existence, Alexis Ross, who has been monumental in various landmark exhibitions including "Street Market" at Art In the Streets. From working with ESPO, TWIST, and REAS, or working on his own paintings, Ross' story is one of history, frankness, and colorful nostalgia.

Here we are, at another New Year, ready for 12 great months ahead. This particular year for Juxtapoz is a little different, as we are celebrating 20 years of independent publishing throughout 2014, and what better than kick off the calendar year with a cover by Mel Kadel and an issue appreciating the subtle details of contemporary art. From New Wave Handmade Art, classic pop surrealism, and DIY public art, February 2014 properly sends us into our 20th year...

Juxtapoz' 20th year begins with a special issue curated by Alex Pardee. "The Imagination Issue" is just that: a look into the special worlds and imaginative universes created by some of our favorite artists and creatives working in the world today. From David Copperfield's world of magic, the Lonely Island's original brand of parody and music, inside Wolvesmouth's kitchen, and into the studios of fine artists Charlie Immer, Tara McPherson, Greg "Craola" Simkins, Scott C, and more. "The Imagination Issue" explores where creativity can take you, where it was born, and how an artist can transform the regular into a special world for us to share.

We end the year on a high, high note, with a great December 2013 cover story on artist Todd "REAS" James. We have been scheduling a story with Todd for a bit now, and after the VMAs with the Miley bears, and another year where his exhibitions seems to get more and more stunning, we thought it was time to send contributing editor Joey Garfield out to NYC to catch up with REAS about pirates, girls, Mileys, vandals, and the evolution of his craft.

The Fall season is upon on us, and we are about to release our November 2013 issue with a very special story on a publishing house with a penchant for old-school pulp illustrations and print! Hard Case Crime is the cover story this month, a publisher of hardboiled crime fiction that emphasizes the use of an old style pulp art by hiring some of the best illustrators in the genre to do their covers. Michael Koelsch did this beautiful cover for an upcoming release of Borderline ... more on the November issue after the jump...

Nothing says summer vacation like the French Riviera. But in the case of David Choe and Estevan Oriol, they much prefer to spend the summer in one of the hardest places in the world to get into: Afghanistan. For the August 2013 issue, we get an exclusive, Anderson Cooper 360 style report from Afghanistan from the journals of David Choe and photos of Estevan Oriol. We follow their trek through the mountains, palaces, jails, and neighborhoods that most of the world has yet to see in over a decade. And they brought paint.
